Contemporary italo-disco and foggy rave culture mark Margot’s first 12” on Life and Death, a welcomed surprise. Drawing on nearly two decades of production expertise, Amore a Bordo Pista recalls the Riccione duo’s sparking remix of Daphni, math-house Holger moment and now-classic Border Community offering. 

Machines breathe on A1, where throbbing synth-bass meets timeless vocoder, as premiered on DJ Tennis’ Essential Mix debut. The afterparty and warehouse meld on the flip, a mind-bending time-warp - somewhere between panic and introspection. 

Technicolour signee, Dauwd, aces his re-depicton of the title track, hinting at golden-era Chain Reaction, while Kiwi slows down Salsce, retaining all of its drive, adding further cosmic brushstrokes.

Four weapons of the mind, just in time for Life and Death’s annual Art Basel showcase, a trippy affair.

Chymera needs little to no introduction, producing and releasing music since 2002 on a multitude of respected imprints like Cocoon, Delsin and Kompakt, he is not only an artist we all admire but also a very dear friend. In fact it was Chymera that introduced Mano and The Drifter to Baikal back in 2010, an introduction without which Maeve may not have happened at all. So it gives us great pleasure to welcome Chymera to Maeve and finally release some of his excellent work.

Noise Tool is a pair of techno cuts, each almost breaching 10 minutes and custom fit to the dancefloor dedicated sound Maeve has become known for. The title track, “Noise Tool”, leads you into a murky world of pulsating sounds and ominous synth lines, building anticipation at clever and intriguing pace. Sparse percussion slowly reveals the hypnotic groove to the listener culminating in a burst of energy that elevates the sound to peak-time-banger status.

On the flip, “1990”, takes a different turn to that of the A side, immediately setting a no nonsense tone with a feeling that something big is going to happen. Chymera has always been known for his distinct focus on melody and 1990 really shows this as several harmonious melodies intertwine to put the listener on the front foot. While beautiful pads give the dancefloor a moment of relief it isn’t long before a deep rolling bassline returns to bring the track to new heights.

DJ Tennis’ highly acclaimed Life and Death imprint continues to traverse sonic boundaries with no exception. The next release Trooper comes from London-based producer Joseph Ashworth, featuring outstanding remixes from the inimitable Ron Trent and founder of Margot Records, Sebra Cruz.

The Ron Trent version employs a stronger techno leaning at the outset, adding a vocal and ambient synths that take it on deeper journey. Sebra Cruz creates a powerful peaktime number, bass-focussed and euphoric. Second original track Laminated, perpetuates the perfect dancefloor rhythm with an abundance of drums, percussion and a heady dose of bass. 

Joseph Ashworth began his career on Needwant with his Grain LP, which showcased his innate ability to fuse melody with a techno beat. Since then, he’s had releases on Get Weird, Dirtybird, Pets Recordings and Anjunadeep. Legendary Ron Trent is regarded as one of the key figures in the birth of the Chicago music scene. He has an extensive back catalogue of prominent releases, founding four of his own labels. Sebra Cruz is the new solo endeavour of one half of Italian duo, and founder of Margot Records, Margot. Earlier this year he released a collaboration with DJ Tennis on their Truth Or Consequences EP.
