Inspirado en los ritmos Yoruba y la multiculturalidad sonora, Waxuma compone en un proceso casi ritual, en un espacio y tiempo desapegado de lo cotidiano, entrando a su propio inconsciente. Following their sold out show at Corsica Studios last night, we welcome Grandbrothers in Hour 2 who are Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel. Together, they combine classical composition with modern, experimental production and sound design. Their debut album Dilation was recorded using a grand piano and a series of self-built electromechanical hammers, which were triggered to ‘play’ the piano, creating new and previously undiscovered sounds. On Oct 14 a remix EP of the debut album Dilation will be released on the label FILM. It contains reinterpretations from Djrum, FaltyDL, Portable Sunsets and Grand Optimist. They told us;
"The mix is a collection of recent favorites of us with no intention to stay in one style. It ended up being 59min, and we needed 60min - so the day before it was aired we recorded an improvised intro during a soundcheck in Dublin."

Last year Rebirth Records celebrated 10 years with the release of the acclaimed compilation selected and mixed by Larry Heard. We are now happy to present 'Rebirth 10 Remixed': a special collection, available on a limited 2x12” vinyl edition, and three digital parts, including brand new versions of some of the classics of the label in the first ten years.

The first part includes remixes from Red Axes, Rampa, Modular Project and VVV. The hot Tel Aviv duo Red Axes bring their trademark new wave sound to a tropical dimension remixing Robytek's 'Luna Africana' combining unusual melodies of bells, chimes and perc drums. The Keinemusik boss Rampa is back with a killer remix of 'Deep Musique' by Pasta Boys Feat. Osunlade, definitely another dancefloor peak time cut on Rebirth. The italian duo Modular Project add their electronic-balearic touch to the Blond:ish vocal anthem ‘Wizard of Love’, while the misterious bass producer VVV reworks another classic on the label, ‘Crossroads’ by T-Polar, giving us a sublte but heavy deep and futuristic synth work. 

The cover sleeve is a work by Emil Schult, who has created a painting especially for the Rebirth's Anniversary. Emil is known for his work with electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk. Schult's collaboration with founders Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider saw him actively involved in writing lyrics as well as generating the design for some of the band's most famous covers.

We had a fantastic experience visiting again Heliodora for the last Voodoohop Festival, and the people we met made an unforgettable impression. One of these was Jaçira Los Angeles (@ja-ci-ra), an unimaginable performer-DJ-actress hailing from  the heart of Brazil's west-central - Brasilia, also a member of the avant-garde collective Limbo. Coming from a reverse flow, she doesn't begin as a DJ, but as a performer, which was genuinely interested in looking into the powerful intersections between music and visuality, and over time, uniting the strangeness of the experimental sound with the softness and sensuality of the dance floor, JAÇIRA has been focusing her energies on those nuances.

Somehow, this 110th edition is a backward-looking of her latest performance at Voodoohop Festival and was recorded in the studio of her beloved partner, while hanging out and boozing with friends. Nevertheless, nostalgically thinking about the curved lines and the sinuosity of Heliodora's hills, she is giving us a heavenly heart-touching selection, filled with surprises and made with her head in the clouds, her ingenious way of being ever since she was born.

Not that he's new on the scene; Mendel hosts top class nights I Love Vinyl and The Daisy Age in his hometown Amsterdam and he's been digging hard since he made the cross over to more varied sounds from his Hip Hop early days. One need only to listen to any one of the mixes he has up on his soundcloud page to discover the depth of his skills at both digging and spinning. One might argue that Mendel is amongst the next generation of a lineage that runs through Rahaan, Kon & Amir, Rich Medina, Sadar Bahar and even our friend Marcel Vogel. With some edits of his own beginning to surface, it's pretty clear the guy has a little bit of what we love written all over his future.
