Nein Records boss Tronik Youth returns to Roam Recordings with an EP full of his characteristic and unique take on ebm. The original title track Kutt-Outs is a quirky and upbeat jam with a bit of mind melting thrown in through the playful synth work and vocal kutt-outs. Number Wang drives in a hypnotic direction while keeping with the vocal work theme. The EP is backed by two excellent remixes. First up is L.A. duo Warehouse Preservation Society who take Kutt-Outs into a 90s electro breakbeat direction. Cardopusher is up next with a darker driving lights-out version of Number Wang.

Set to release this October 13th via La Belle Records. Azaria & Andrea Lacoste join forces for "Hexagrama". This collaboration see's one of the most intriguing producers from the low BPM electronic scene (who we previously welcomed a year ago for our VA "One Night Stands 3") work alongside one of the most eclectic singer / producers around.

Azaria & Andrea Lacoste continue on a journey of musical experimentation. The sound of this new record might surprise fans who are familiar with Azarias earlier release "Bugs". This collaboration with the Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist artist exemplifies the organic synergy both artists display.

The EP delves into the ritualistic elements found in African and Oriental sonorities, as well as music with psychedelic influences. It features a blend of Latin beats, Amazonian rhythms, drums, and other ethnic resonances, all of which create a tribal and immersive atmosphere that invites the listener into their world. Layered over these percussions are melodious tunes, ethereal voices, and continuous chants that augment the hypnotic musical backdrops, reminiscent of mantras. The result is a sound framework that ebbs and flows with dreamy, serene, and experimental touch. It's a fusion of the electronic and the organic, distinguished by a unique touch that sets it apart in an era flooded with music.

This record's aim of folk-ancestral revival is consistently evident. The EP opens with "Soleil," characterized by its laid-back rhythm and sensuous vocal work. Followed by "Jayeechi Wayúu," which combines a straightforward House beat with intricate percussion and layered influences. "A New Jam" immerses us further, with melodic drum work, with spoken word serving as a counterpoint to the bustling rhythm in the background. "Bright Mood" propels us deeper into the tribal concepts whilst the title track "Hexagrama" pulls you in with its darker layers over a 4-to-the-floor beat.

Valeriu Borcos and Eduard Gabia are Karpov not Kasparov, a musical game of chess between synthesizers and drums. Beginning in Bucharest in 2009, the duo soon incorporated an analogue visual artist and contemporary dancers into their live performances, resulting in a theatrical show and a kind of real-time soundtrack to the action around them. The duo’s unique dynamic creates a psychedelic synth-driven sound, combining oriental melodies with the drive of a full live drum kit. “Soundtrack for a game of Chess” is their debut LP, comprising a selection of the best tracks from their previous two EPs, which never appeared on vinyl. “Mechanical Turk”, named after a faux chess-playing machine constructed in the late 18th century, displays the darker side to the band’s undulating sound, as the vintage synth creates a spacey Eastern overlay to the driving bass and drums. There are moments of downbeat jazz-infused introspection, such as the track “Kaissa”, named after the goddess of chess, as well as the ever-onward kraut drums of “Choose you colour gipsy dark” overlaid with the rise and fall of a pulsating synth. Yet the record is not simply a dark synth composition, at times K not K sway towards a more playful, experimental pop sound reminiscent of early electronic pioneers such as Harmonia or Vangelis, while still managing to retain a modern, otherworldly feel.
Having garnered great acclaim within their native Romania, their debut EPs also received high praise internationally from sources such as WFMU. While last year, Mehmet Aslan’s re-work of “Mechanical Turk” released on Huntleys + Palmers made waves across the dance floors of the world. They’re now set to release their debut LP on Polychrome Sounds this Summer and will be touring Europe from Spring onwards.

What attracts us to Chilean-born artist Ricardo Tobar is the notion of intersection, and although fusion is nothing new, as a concept it will always pull our heartstrings. Applying influence is amateur, we see this over and over again as we endure trend-driven appropriation of cultures the world over, but the epiphany when an artist finds true synergy between heritage and influence is a pivotal moment that the inspired will seek, even though it may take the length of one’s career to behold. As pretentious as that may sound, it is precisely the hybrid born from that place of intersection that excites us at the ESP Institute, the “A plus B that equals 3”. We hear this in Ricardo’s music — the Latin American instinct in his drums and percussion, sometimes tightly aligned with body movements and other times hauntingly mis-aligned and chaotic, intersects with his rock influence of ethereal (micro) melodies that slowly layer and layer until we’re climbing a glorious (macro) wall of sound — but most importantly we hear where these different parts of his life come together to further create one unique voice. On both sides of his ESP Institute debut 'Liturgia', Tobar couples one pulsing dance-driven track with another atmospheric and immersive track, requiring we educate ourselves in the polarity of this language he’s building, one that will expand to tell a broader story later this year with his debut album. When a song means a lot to you personally, having it remixed is a lot like sending your child to undergo plastic surgery. In this case, though, it was like having the operation performed by doctors you respect as musicians.

This is most likely my favorite track off Ciao!, and the response I’ve gotten from fans seems to suggest I’m not alone. They come up to me and say, “Tiga, that was an amazing game of racquetball, but the real reason I’m here is to tell you how much “Gentle Giant” means to me.” And it’s not uncommon for my sports goggles to fill up with salty blue Gatorade tears, mainly because I thought we had been playing squash.

Some may claim that the remixes on this release are too diverse, that they strain the acceptable boundaries of what’s eclectic and what’s too hectic to sex with. And to that I say, “You can’t shame the Rebel, dog. You can’t even try.”

The man behind its first reference is Stephan Barnem who delivers 4 originals tracks loaded of crispy textures and dark landscapes.
