This is the first official release of the June 1970 Montreux Jazz Festival concert featuring trumpeter Ian Carr’s pioneering Nucleus performing with US vocalist Leon Thomas on a set of Thomas’ own repertoire including ‘The Creator Has A Master Plan’ (originally recorded in 1969 with Pharaoh Saunders). Nucleus won first prize representing the United Kingdom at the Festival that year, and were performing at the height of their powers with their first and finest lineup. The collaboration with Thomas is (in Ian’s words) a combination of the “rock thing...with the roots of the music”, but it is more than that: a band and singer in tune with one another, aware of all the contemporary developments in jazz, and of the music’s past, who are prepared to delve into all those areas to produce a sound that’s gloriously alive!

Slow, consistent bumps. Is that how Ostrich’s stroll through the passage of their lives? Add a few high and low synths and you might have a point there. But wait, what about the acid? It’s all part of the greater Ostrich at large. Axefield’s opening ode to the exotics is a lucid dream in which your answers are questioned by a tropical animal as the steady beat thumps on and the hypnotising synths make you swing left and right. As the filter flings the hallucinogenic Ostrich Ride To Other away, the palm trees turn into riverbeds and clear crystal dreams. Was this the other side? I don’t know. You don’t speak Ostrich either. All we know is that you should ride the darned thing by its wings. If you would have listened you would have heard.

Charlie is an effect of Kalipos own music journey. The whole EP can be interpreted as a story of a history written on the way. The music reflects various emotions attached to different parts of the specific journey of the author as in the same time he struggles to get into the listeners mind and trying to foretell their emotions. 

The release tells about the journey and emotional adventures on the way of flying octopus Charlie. There is a composition of feelings and odd things happening with him. The dreamy opener And the Stone of Heart sets the adventure mode from the very beginning, inviting the listeners to follow the octopus and experience different narcotic feelings inspired by music such as Watching Elephants on Bikes and Riding the White Camel.

Kalipo - The Flying Octopus

The 25th release of Klangwelt is covered again by Italian artists, 1979 who has already proved his position on our label as an artist to keep an eye on for the future. His recipe of analogue and minimalistic ingredients mixed with the right portion of composition and excitement makes his music both emotional and very functional to play out.

“The making process was not the same for the three tracks. While for Permissions it took me just an afternoon to have the main structure of the songs, for Doors and Escape the thing was a little bit longer. I firstly drew some sounds sketches, and I start to jam with those for several days; I wanted the different synths to fit well together!” – 1979

1979 may represent a past love for one of the best rock/shoegaze tune of the nineties, but who knows? It’s certainly the name of the new project of electronic music by Giovanni Salviato. Based in the north of Italy, between the always inspiring Alps and the city of Venice, Giovanni is trying to develop a sound that blends his ambient and shoegaze tastes with a new drive to electronic, micro house and techno. 1979 started his mission in 2015 with two fresh works, one of those released by Cut, a netlabel founded by Stillhead. His music is described by the German imprint as “soulful, organic sounding tech house and like in the Italian kitchen, he is using simple but high-quality ingredients to make his style this tasty”.  His new EP “Doors” will be released soon on Klangwelt.

“I like to think that 1979 and Klangwelt/Back Home chose each other! I’ve always been a fan of their label roster and as well inspired by their sound (Ryan Davis, Applescal, Mattheis, Vaghe Stelle..) so I decided to get in touch with them! I hope to grow and grow as an artist and to give my positive contribution to the music of the label.” – 1979

Released in 1970 following his album for Vertigo, Electric City , Open Music featured the leading lights of British Jazz Rock such as Chris Spedding, and featured music initially composed for modern dance. The resulting record appeared on Philips Records at the end of 1970. Outstandingly unique, the album failed to sell in significant quantities and became a highly sought after collector's item.
