A few days before the eminent scholar Lance Cousins passed away in 2015, he revealed to one of his students, Sarah Shaw, that he had been working on a book on Buddhist meditation. After his death, with the permission of his family, Shaw found the manuscript on his desktop and prepared it for publication. The book, "Meditations of the Pali Tradition," is the first comprehensive exploration of meditation systems in Theravada Buddhism, and it offers an in-depth analysis of the ritual, somatic, and devotional aspects of Theravada practice that are often overlooked.

In today’s episode of Tricycle Talks, Tricycle’s editor-in-chief, James Shaheen, sits down with Shaw to discuss a system of Buddhist meditation known as the jhanas, a strain of Buddhist mysticism called Tantric Theravada, and the underappreciated role of joy in meditative practice.

So beta testing Moog's new model 15 app meant I could at last try and emulate early TD's Chris Franke sequencer sound using midiSequencer.

This is an early audio of that session, will share some later versions in the near future.

The Rising

A cover version by Jimmy Rivas and myself of the classic Free song written by Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirk, Tetsu Yamauchi, John Bundrick and Paul Kossoff.  Issued as a single in the UK in December 1972 and included on their final studio album Heartbreaker.

Jimmy contacted me and asked if I would be interested in doing another collaboration.  After hearing the recent Free covers he had done with Hiroshi Kohno (aerogene070) https://soundcloud.com/aerogene, which are outstanding, I suggested we might try this one.

So this is probably one of the more randomly put together tracks I’ve done recently.  It all started by experimenting with patterns and effects in DM1 and playing over the resulting groove separately in Magellan and SampleTank (which is actually useful as an iOS app now that it has ACP).  Some sections were driven by the Magellan jamming and some by the SampleTank jamming.  In the end, I think everything somehow managed to tie together.

iPad apps used: DM1, Magellan, SampleTank, Animoog, Sunrizer, Alchemy and the venerable NanoStudio (were all parts were mixed and either assembled or recorded).
