Planet Jass  AREA 303

Who exactly is a "TESLA GIRL"?  Obviously a woman who is exceedingly intelligent, and like Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), has an "ELECTRIC" personality!   The modern day "TESLA GIRL" may even drive a TESLA ELECTRIC automobile.  A TESLA GIRL is the nouveau-yuppie upwardly mobile woman of the 21st century.   For other interpretations, please consult Google (I am no authority on this subject - just a cool name for an electronic music track!). 

This is a musical electronic experiment which attempts to simulate the HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRIC SPARK sound of a TESLA COIL at the intro and end, and is dedicated to the memory of NIKOLA TESLA, who pioneered the concepts of wireless electricity, radio, alternating current (AC), and many other important inventions.   A genius well before his time. 

If you SURVIVE the INTRO, the tune actually has a pretty decent melody.  The EDM groove came about mostly because I used ROLAND TB-303 ACID bass sounds throughout.  I used a ROLAND TB-3, a MODE MACHINES xoxbox, and a Sylenth1 virtual analog  synthesizer to create the ROLAND ACID TB-303 bass lines.  Can you tell which bass part was done with which synthesizer or bass box?

GO-GO TOWN   (Sounds of Washington DC Streets - free download)

This track was saved from an old 4 track reel-to-reel recording David and I recorded together around 1982 (originally called "Dana's Dance").    David came up with the basic chord changes for the A and B section (which he played on a fender rhodes on the original tape recording), and he initially worked out the melody for the A section with the tape deck at half speed, as this tune really flies by. (because it sounded a bit strange up an octave when the tape was played at full speed, the A section sax melody could not be used as originally recorded). 

On the original 4 track tape recording I am playing the drum kit, bass and percussion parts, which survive on this new version mostly intact as originally recorded to tape.

We recorded just one take of this tune, (essentially just a rhythm track - rhodes and drums were recorded together, then fender bass, percussion, and sax were overdubbed).  We never finished the tune.  Three decades later, with the wonders of computer editing and recording, I have attempted (2015) to finish this tune by adding new sections and many new parts, including an intro, interlude, added melody for B section with guitar harmony parts, an extended sax-bass-percussion ending, many added horn parts, including two part harmony for the main melody (A section trumpet, sax, and synth sounds).  I also re-recorded the original fender rhodes part with a new acoustic piano track laying down the chord changes.  From the original 4-track tape recording (1982), only the bass, drums, and first half of the sax solo survive on this updated version.

Since Neptune is a gas giant, it has no known solid surface on which to stand or land a craft, manned or unmanned.  Even if there was a solid surface at some core level, the amount of gravity on Neptune would be too much for a person to survive. So a NEPTUNE LANDING in 2029 (or any other year) would appear to be impossible, even for an unmanned lander.  I will call this one a THOUGHT EXPERIMENT. However, it makes for a great sounding title to a (nonsensical?) musical composition. This original composition attempts to simulate what it might be like to approach the event horizon of a black hole, which is the point at which the gravitational pull becomes so great as to make escape impossible (even for light!). Strange things happen to the fabric of space time around the event horizon, hence the free atonal structure of the intro and second half of the composition. Because such an approach to a real black hole would be unsurvivable and not fully observable by humans, this composition merely contemplates a THOUGHT EXPERIMENT.

Just playing around for the very first time with a Behringer Neutron Synth which is used to create a sub-bass EDM bass line.  Very simple bass part with a lame Hammond B3 lick added by me and a few lame electric piano licks thrown in for good measure around the vocal hook.  No claim to the vocals that are sliced up royalty free vocal samples just for some fun.   I plan to use the Behringer Neutron Synth a lot in the future with more complex bass lines - a very nice synth!
