I typically try not to follow the wave of producers who take a shot at remixing every @thechainsmokers track that gets released, but I felt this song was different than their usual and decided to put my own spin on it

the original grew on me a ton and after I started working on this I realized it was going to be one of my favourite releases. this remix grew a life of it's own but I feel it still keeps the integrity of the original.

Brooklyn's singer/songwriter/force of nature Wolkoff has teamed up with renowned NYC producer Atropolis to share their heavy new track “He’s A Lizard” (SoundCloud). This single is for all you Valentine's Day resistors and survivors of love gone awry.

The two approached the song as a stylistic homage to the spirit of dancehall; with a syncopated 1/16th note rhythm that sets the stage for staccato horns and short stabby chords to accent the mesmerizing kick and bass.

At more intimate moments, Atropolis harnesses the production through dreamlike synths. A fan of using clinking coins and smashing glass for claps in his drum kits, he accents the jam with shattering bottles which carries its own symbolic weight in the context of Wolkoff's uneasy lyrics and composition.

Wolkoff, the eponymous e-pop project from Brooklyn’s own Joanie Wolkoff, is fresh off a prolific 2016, which saw the release of her critically acclaimed debut album Without Shame (SoundCloud + Spotify), along with the release of her second collaborative single “Me & Mine” (SoundCloud) with The Hood Internet, and the long-awaited second GEMOLOGY single, “Come Around” (SoundCloud). She’s already hard at work on the follow-up to Without Shame, which will be out later this year… stay tuned!

This is Wolkoff’s first collaboration with Atropolis, who adeptly balances trained expression in classical piano and jazz guitar in a transcendent blend of ethnomusicology. Having collaborated with international artists like Midival Punditz (India), Dom La Nena (Brazil), Madosini (South Africa), and co-producing a remix for grammy award winning artists Celia Cruzand Willie Colon, Atropolis now joins forces with Wolkoff to bring you this chameleonic track.

Oleka are a four piece band from South London, together they make dark modern pop, firmly rooted in the city. Their new single "Just Not Here” is released on 24th February 2017 on their own Drift City label. Taking inspiration from progressive pop acts as diverse as Drake to Arthur Russell and everything in between, their music is characterized by honest, conversational lyrics, moody textures, and kaleidoscopic production that nods to classic house, gospel and dancehall styles.

Oleka create music you can lose yourself in. “Just Not Here" is about the highs and deep lows living the city can bring and the effect it has on relationships; not just with other people, but also home itself - how being low can make the city feel distant and unwelcome. The song’s change in direction mid way through suggests a new mood, something more hopeful or the primal, visceral relief that only moving to music in a dark room, with a few hundred other people can provide. 

The accompanying “Just Not Here” (Give Me Time Retouch) is an emotive in-house job, ready for the dance floor. It works with tiny samples from the single and teases out an edit that reaches for the same heartstrings that Caribou's 'Can't Do Without You' swings on.

Atropolis represents a sonic city of transcultural boom. A native of New York, his blood blends the village heat of Cyprus, the lore of Northern Europe, and the mysticism of the Maori. Stirring with a degree in composition, Atropolis mixes trained expression in classical piano and jazz guitar in a pot of ethnomusicology. His alchemical fusion transcends over dance floors, grounding ears in the rhythms of their global body.
