Born Derrick Lamont McGilbra but better know by the stage name Mack Trae was born in Dallas, Tx on January 27, 1987. Raised in the suburb of Oak Cliff by his mother Kendra Hopkins (née Rhodes). His biological father, Willie Cecile McGilbra was around, but not totally active in his life. 
Derrick is the oldest of 6 children. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Most of his siblings are from his father (4) and one (1) from his mother. His brother, Eryk Hall raps also, and his youngest brother Braymon McGilbra plays the drums and is only 12. 
Derrick has always had an interest in music, often described as an old soul because of his love for blues and jazz. He started writing raps at the age of 12 and in school as he became more versed with poetry he applied that to his rhymes. In the 8th grade his english teacher gave him a rhyming dictionary which he put to use right away. But it wasn’t until 22 he started taking music seriously due to certain circumstances in his life.
His father was a street scholar who had great potential, but let the streets get the best of him. Derrick, when asked what his father did for a living, he replied “My father is an outside pharmaceutical sales person”, which was just an educational was of saying “drug dealer”. Derrick was familiar with his father but due to his father nature of work his mother kept him away from that lifestyle. His father died at the age of 36 from Hepatitis when Derrick was 19 years old, and a freshman in college.  
His mother was losely strict on him growing up, only to make him a better person often stating “I will not raised another unproductive black male in this world”. Mrs. Hopkins married Aaron Hopkins, Mack Trae’s manager  in December 2009. Mrs Hopkins was very protective of her son; and with attempting to providing what was best for him, she often found hereself working two jobs to make ends meet. He attended Universal Academy Charter School in Irving, Tx 8th-11th grade, after his mother felt that the public school setting was not for her son. 
While at the charter school he excelled greatly. He played basketball and ran track. He maintained an above average grade point average while he was there but due to other circumstances he was forced to change schools after his 11th grade year at the charter school, which placed him at Cedar Hill High School for his senior year. He graduated from Cedar Hill with a 3.46 grade point average and in the top 25 percentile of of his class.   
Derrick attended Wiley College in Marshall, Tx where he was apart of the pre-alumni council and was active in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Sigma Chapter where he served 2 years as historian. He played intramural flag football and basketball, and worked at home, in Dallas, on the weekends. In college, his peers gave him the name “Uncle D” because of his level of maturity for his age. After 4 years he graduated from Wiley with a Business Degree with a  concentration in Management, with a 3.57 GPA, earning him the title of Cum Laude. 
It was at Wiley, Derrick met his Wife, LaToya Williams, who he dated for a year and a half before proposing.They were wed on April 7,2012. They have a 2 year daughter who was born on September 6, 2010 named Ahrielle Symone McGilbra, who was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic at 5; and on August 30, 2017, they welcomed another daughter Kemia Michelle McGilbra into the family. They currently reside in the suburb of Waxahachie, Tx.

Layton is a Nashville, TN native but raised in E. Saint Louis. “I didn’t grow up in a musical family, but my Daddy loves music and my love for music started there”, says the singer. At 18 years old she started taking singing seriously.

Greene began making videos of herself singing some of her favorite tunes and posting them on social media. One of them was a version of Kodak Black's "Roll in Peace," with Greene putting her own spin on the lyrics. To her surprise, after posting it, the clip began attracting attention far beyond her circle of friends, going on to receive more than a million views. 

Layton Greene next partnered with producer G-Styles, recording a more professional version of what she called her "Roll in Peace Remix," and after it was posted online in November 2017, it exploded, receiving over three and a half million plays. The track became popular enough to rise to number 12 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. A few days before the end of 2017, Greene dropped her second studio track, an interpretation of Derez De'Shon's "Fed Up" that she called "Fed Up Remix." With G-Styles once again at the controls, Layton had recorded another success, and she celebrated by quitting her day job at a restaurant to focus on music full-time.

May 2018 Layton Greene debuted her original music and first single titled “Myself”.
