The 31st vurt podcast features a 113-minute set called ‘Orbium Mix’ by Berlin-based techno artist Magna Pia - a solo project by electronic musician Hüseyin Evirgen who is known as half of the legendary live techno duo - Cassegrain. Magna Pia focuses on providing combative dance floor trips and unorthodox sonic moods with subtle 90s techno references while he keeps his interest in combining contemporary techno music with archaic symbolism.
Magna Pia recently released his second solo EP [Orbium] on the Counterchange label, ahead of a full-length LP on the label set for Q4 this year. It contains 4 tracks of highly effective techno-purism laced with shamanic, psychedelic undertones, intuitive modulating arrangements, and cyclical, kinetic energy.

Pildora Tapes w. Der Nautilus, Selector project based in Santiago de Chile. Owners of an experimental sound that contains the essence of Techno imbued with industrial touches, in communion with the ethereal, hypnotic and mystical nuances of noise and ambient music; components united in a minimalist reduction. Co-founders of Enter d' Noise, trinity that materializes as a party since 2016, which away from the lights, generates intimate listening spaces, with the intention of promoting music from an aesthetic, appreciative and fundamentally spiritual look, where an amalgam composed of noise, ambient music and the perfusion of sonorities linked to techno, industrial, post-punk and psychedelia is found.

This is a studio mix, started with an initial live take and then combed over meticulously with automated filters, eq, and fx. This is the same setup I use to play out, minus the automation. There is rarely a point when only one track is playing. I always try to find mixes that feel like a new track emerges from the combination. I imagine the optimal listening environment to be eyes-closed with headphones on, but I also hope you will feel an irresistible urge to move at some points ;)

Na Nich began his musical journey in the late 90s under the moniker Sunchase and quickly gained recognition with prominent releases on labels like Moving Shadow and DSCI4. Later, he expanded his sound and started his own labels, Kvadrat and 22:22, and became one of the founding members of Rhythm Büro.

Alexander is now an accomplished techno and breakbeat producer, sought after mastering engineer, and has even had his music featured in video games. He is known for his love of analog gear and his highly regarded live setup, and regardless of genre, his music always showcases his trademark groove and engineering perfection.

The 41st episode of the vurt Podcast features an hour-long set from DJ YAZI, one of the leading DJs in the Japanese techno scene. He has been active since the mid-1990s, as a member of Tokyo’s notoriously avant-garde hip-hop group called Think Tank, DJ YAZI draws inspiration from across the musical spectrum: the mentality of hip-hop, the intensity of dub and jazz, the ferocity of techno and the euphoria of house. As a DJ he moves fluidly across styles, with his sets connected by a strong focus on deep and tripped-out grooves. His attention to detail, precision, and masterful control over the decks clearly show his long-time involvement in this art form.

Dasha Rush is a Russian born artist who sees the genre as a starting place not a destination. She is a respected and well-travelled DJ and live performer, but her work is equally focussed away from the dance floor, and sometimes away from music itself. Her recent album for Raster-Noton, Sleepstep, could be a metaphor for her work: "These 16 pieces are transmissions from that state between sleep and wakefulness," said Tony Naylor, a reflection of the in-between zones her music often inhabits. Dubby but intense, brutal but tender, foggy yet clear—Sleepstep was a wonderful mass of contradictions. Not being one thing or the other is vitally important to Rush, which goes hand-in-hand with her strong independent streak. The majority of the music she's released since starting out in 2005 has come through her own Fullpanda label and, as she told us in 2013, she's resistant to playing the publicity game in the way many in the scene do. That's meant she's remained off the radar for some techno fans, but it's also given her the freedom to explore projects and sounds as she pleases. With all this mind, it was little surprise that our invitation to record a podcast was met with, "Yes, but it won't be a club mix." What we got instead was an absorbing 65 minutes of dense ambient soundscapes that shows Rush at her most reflective. The mix comes ahead of the North American premiere of Antarctic Takt, Rush's A/V show with Stanislav Glazov, at this week's Mutek festival in Montreal.

RA.469 Dasha Rush - An ambient odyssey.

For our next podcast we head out to the Far East, specifically to Chiba in Japan, where the cult favourite DJ Nobu resides. From there the man behind legendary party Future Terror and esteemed label Bitta has been putting out weird electronics, spacey electro and atmospheric techno since the late 90s. He releases rather infrequently, but when he does you can be sure he never does the same trick twice. It is the same story when he is DJing: he always manages to conjure up fresh tricks, textures and tunes depending on the situation and has put out many official mix CDs to that end. From contemporary electronic pieces to abstract techno, his wide repertoire has made him a favourite with the likes of the Berghain crew and Hessle Audio associate Ben UFO, who played with him recently at the Red Bull Music Academy, whilst he also played a stand out set on Boiler Room at our own Dekmantel festival earlier in the year.

The podcast he has put together for us is just over an hour of occult ambient littered with the sounds of the Far East. It is patient and absorbing, zoned out and eerie as well as being hugely organic and natural sounding. Drums only appear in the latter half and when they do, they still come embellished with pixel thin pads, metallic surfaces and harmonic sounds that continue to sooth your mind in fresh new ways.

We would like to think we have served up plenty of special treats in our podcast series so far, but this latest one is certainly one that many people will get very excited about. It is not often that Detroit key-figures step out and offer us a window into their current musical world, but that is what we have here from Sherard Ingram aka DJ Stingray. Famed for many reasons—not least for always DJing in a black balaclava—he is founder of the Urban Tribe super group with KDJ, C2 and Shake, was DJ for the legendary electro outfit Drexcyia and is also a fierce DJ and producer in his own right. He came up playing tough techno and electro in hardcore motorcycle clubs in the D, but is now a regular in the world’s finest underground spaces, where he pushes a dark, intense sound that is socially and politically charged. Shades of Miami bass and ghetto tech also characterise his work on labels like Shipwreck, Bleep43, [NakedLunch] and Unknown to the Unknown, and in 2016 he is as busy and prolific as he has ever been. This summer he plays a rather exclusive back to back set with Helena Hauff at our festival in Amsterdam. 

The mix he serves up is a great snapshot of what Stingray does - forces you to dance to his high tempo, high impact sounds. He mixes them quickly and slickly and there is a real sense of urban paranoia and future menace in every tune he reaches for. Sit back, then, and bask in the glory of a real master.

DJ Sodeyama is a DJ/Producer who has been a mainstay on the Tokyo Electronic scene since the early 90's. He formed his own label ARPA Records which holds its showcase events at Womb. Among the releases from his own label. Label showcase "ARPA Showcase" kicked off its regular club night at Womb, Tokyo and has been growing ever since with its take on the cutting edge side of dance music within the scene. 

In 2015 he released for the first time in 8 years new album ”Twelve Processing” as DJ Sodeyama name. and He joined Nina Kravitz label “трип” family in chance with the release "Miles pt.02" from there.
now, He is ready for some more releases which focus on the deeper techno work.

Chuang Tzu was a philosopher in ancient China, who, one night went to sleep and dreamed that he was a butterfly. He dreamt that he was flying around from flower to flower and while he was dreaming he felt free, blown about by the breeze hither and thither. He was quite sure that he was a butterfly. But when he awoke he realised that he had just been dreaming, and that he was really Chuang Tzu dreaming he was a butterfly.
