I see 'em talking on the corner, I hear 'em shouting on the news, Each one standing on their soapbox, trying hard not to lose. They're armed with Wikipedia facts, and every single book they've read, Trying to convince the world with what's stored up in their head. But the silence in the spaces, where the arguments should end, Just proves that nobody's listening, they're just waiting to defend.
You can preach it from the pulpit, you can lay down all the facts, But people don't care how much you know, there's no changing that. They wanna know how much you really care, see where your heart is true, Gotta Win the Heart first, yeah, that's what you do, And I promise you, The Mind Will Follow right behind it, too.
Never heard a lecture, she didn't need to preach the truth, She just showed me how to listen deep from childhood through my youth. I watched her meet the broken ones, the ones the crowd ignored, She gave 'em a safe harbor, not a single lesson stored. She didn't have the answers, she just gave 'em a clean slate, And that's how I learned you lead with your heart, before you open up the gate.
Oh, it's easy to spot the fake ones if you watch 'em long enough, They're the ones talking wisdom, when the road gets too rough. They say the words, they wear the badge, they post the perfect prayer, But faith isn't just a Sunday suit, it's walking through despair. It's easy to preach the facts, but it's harder to stand in the rain, To let go of your own agenda, and really feel somebody's pain.
