JHS teams up with AEA to showcase their new Colour Box 500!

AEA’s Sammy Rothman put JHS’s new Colour Box 500 series preamps to the test! Recorded at the AEA Studio with a minimal mic setup of all AEA ribbons, Mason Stoops’ trio of guitar, bass, and drums matches the classic vibe and tone of the ribbon mics. With four mics on drums, Sammy used spaced N8s on overheads running through two Colour Boxes, an R92 on kick, and a single R84 in front of the kit. Guitar and bass cabs were both miked with N22s through Colour Boxes, while an R88 stereo mic captured the natural ambience of the room. The JHS Colour Box packed a punch as Sammy added character and depth to the N8 overhead mics using the Colour Box’s special gain stage feature.
