Justin Varis (b.Cincinnati, OH 1979) is an American musician/composer living in Los Angeles. Drawing on the rich history of musique concrète while most recently exploring minimal single instrument composition, his music is one of contrast and contradiction. Abstract tendencies conjoin with basic intimate melodies. Disruptive sequencing is utilized alongside loops and repeating patterns. Meticulous audio editing creates calculated timing while improvised passages lend expressive mistakes.

Wil Bolton - Under A Name That Hides Her - Clearing

Xumla was born in a search for simplicity. Xumla likes to produce naivety within sound. Marked by gentle, almost fragile melodies, broken rhythmic patterns, minimalistic arrangements and characteristic textured layering of musical themes. Xumla gravitates to the meditative sound and the minimalism in the means of expression. Each work of Xumla is an element of live musical canvas, micro fibers which grow into each other. According to the author of the project, he tends to perceive his micro-sound as a living flesh. He comments the artistic process:

“As a rule, working on some track, I catch the central theme or idea and then I shower it by lots of layers and variations. Then I start to make the way to the core of composition again, removing all unnecessary and leaving only the material that my aesthetic perception does not allow me to refuse.”

audiomoves - Xumla - Dancing Dust

Form was recorded in the Winter of 2010/2011 and marks that very specific time in my life. I started recording Form after my project, feie, went on hiatus and for all I know may never exist again. This work reflects my understanding and appreciation for all things coming to an end. The album starts off kicking and screaming and slowly unwinds from then on. Sounds burst out like living organisms, somewhat imperfect and random and then fall apart by refolding into themselves. It carries a bittersweet sentiment, a dying organism so to speak. It is a desperate attempt to latch onto form, but losing it all to the elements. The sound is unstable and fragile. The low ends hold power over everything. It is a battle between what an individual pursues and the overwhelming power of nature.

The tracks in Astoria came from a year-long project to produce an improvisation a week.  They document not only my growth as a cellist, but my exploration of the electroacoustic possibilities of the cello.

THE ARTIST
Coming from San Francisco, Aria Rostami’s music shares the same ebb and flow of his hilly and foggy city. Although very conceptually driven, Rostami's work tends to vary in mood and genre from song to song... a true lover of music rather than genre. His current work focuses on taking risks and facing change. Rostami has created ambient pieces for installations and produced scores for films.

UNIFORM
Uniform is a "remix album" and a follow up to my debut album Form. Form was about the deconstruction of sound while Uniform is about the reconstruction of it. Although the album contains only three proper remixes, the five new original tracks were guided by the spirit of a remix album. The songs were put together mostly by constructing field recordings, randomly recorded piano parts, and so on to create source material and then combined afterword to create songs. The new tracks were created to have some parallelism with the remixes. Uniform discovers the differences within similarities. Uniformity is nothing more than an idea; a force that turns and breaks from human lens to human lens.


Aria Rostami - Tokyo

Monty Adkins is experimental sound artist based in remote countryside of the north of England. His work is deeply influenced by the visual arts  and psychogeography resulting in collaborations with a number of painters and digital artists. Inhabiting a post-acousmatic sensibility, Monty’s work draws together elements from ambient, acousmatic and microsound music producing a soundworld characterised by slow shifting organic textures derived from processed instrumental sounds. His work can be found on various labels including Audiobulb, Cronica, Signature, and empreintes DIGITALes. He presents on Eilean Rec. his sixth solo albums since 2009.

Tatsuro Kojima is a Japanese self-taught music artist born in 1977, working with field recordings, a synthesizer and electronics.
His sounds are closely connected to his visual approaches and he has collaborated with artists and labels around the world.
He has released his two first albums on Audiobulb records and he's also active in web design, graphic design, and mobile app development.

He presents on eilean rec. his third albums.

Pascal Savy is a French musician who lives and works in London. He creates organic ambient and drone music as a way to reflect on erosion, transition and decay. He utilizes tones, textures, micro-melodies and noise to explore atmospheres rather than narratives. His work often combines acoustic and electronic sources generated from field-recordings, pick-ups, tape loops, feedback, synthesisers or home made electronics which he transforms into dense and layered motifs. His works has been released on Hibernate, Feedback Loop Label & Twisted Tree Lines.

"Adrift is conceived as a sound exploration of a sea area in close proximity of the fictional island of Eilean. The land itself haunts the music as a spectral presence exerting a pull on the narrative and is occasionally seen through a thick veil of mist and fog. The eight tracks on the album works as a series of discrete but related mythical seascapes, each evoking in their own way the elusiveness and foreboding nature of this space."

THE ARTIST
Luis' interests in sound have carried him from a small border town near Mexico to graduate school in London, then to an unexpected life in Seoul and other cities in Asia. He has exhibited sound installations in various parts of the world and worked on sound scores for films which have premiered in several different countries. A commitment to opening ears to sounds of all natures is what drives him.

Lume II is taken from his extraordinary album Between Walks. Luis described the album as "a pause between transitory states in which I had the fortune to inspect, in detail, the sounds, sights and environments that I encountered while on walks."
