Renaissance [Xenharmonic Passages album, 2018]

Shortly after releasing his highly acclaimed ‘The Benoît Pioulard Listening Matter’(Kranky), Pioulard left on tour to Europe in order to promote the album. This tour took him to several distinctive places ranging from urban Brussels to rural France and the mystic capital city of Iceland, Reykjavik.

Once returned to Seattle, these new impressions and memories formed the inspiration to make ‘Slow spark, soft spoke’. Not surprisingly, the album continues in the same vein as his tour cd ‘Lignin Poise’ - which was repressed on vinyl by Beacon Sound - and is characterized by slowly moving lo-fi ambient textures. The album reveals Pioulards most melancholic side and once again shows his capabilities to bring beautiful sonic narratives with only a few instrumental layers.

‘Slow spark, soft spoke’ was initially released on tape on Dauw but sold out quickly during pre-order. After having received only sublime reviews and tons of request to re-issue the album, we now decided to give it a well deserved vinyl repress.

 “'Never, just as you wanted' is a timeless odyssey of complete transcendence with gradual bliss of guitar tones – and meticulously crafted sounds – that somehow map the ocean swell of human emotions – of the innermost kind – embedded deep within us all." (Fractured Air)

For this vinyl edition, Pioulard decided to add 2 totally new tracks in addition to the 4 initial ones. These new tracks are presented as the single 'Athanasy, 1993' which will be released and announced with the vinyl pre-order on October 4th. All together, the initial EP and the new single form a consistent full length which adds to his impressive and ever growing catalogue.

‘Slow spark, soft spoke’ will be released on October 26th on a limited  vinyl edition (200 heavyweight clear vinyl) and digitally. The tape comes with original hand-printed artwork by Femke Strijbol and will be accompanied by a unique polaroid taken by Benoît Pioulard (limited to 50 only).

First extract from "I Could Go Lucid" Album by Bodyverse

‘I Could Go Lucid’ is about an instant of awareness in which I realise I could have the chance to create an astonishing reality, if only I could keep consciousness while dreaming, for more than an ephemeral moment. Lucid dreams mean to me a chance to create perfection as I feel they release the power of imagination in its whole potential. Imagination becomes matter to interact with. 
It’s the brain’s virtual reality, the off limits oneiric one. As well as in dreams, also in the musical creative process I perceive a certain amount of surreal content, and it too links with imagination and with the act of materialising ideas. For this reason I am currently experimenting through improvisation, in a journey between surrealism, expressionism and situationist drift. I try to let ideas flow, so my will subordinates to accidents and emotions. I become an explorer or a traveller with an uncertain destination. This atmosphere has resulted in a creation of six pieces in which the priority is simply to keep the integrity of the original "idea" itself. 
Nothing has been planned, cut nor post-produced.

a short test with the fantastic LW 258VCO (coupled with serge waveshaper). this connection and the joint feedback path makes these two osc extremely versatile. lots of harmonic overtones and even undertones possible depending on what mixture of wave is going through the tws.
also a test how to use the addac stochastic function generator in a tamed setting, every envelope is slightly different, the sequence gets "humanized".

~'Worn' was written in the summer of 2019 and was recorded using a Yamaha MT3X multitrack cassette recorder.
The cassette tape itself was an old cassette tape which I used to record voice memos on when I was little.

The recording process involved the recording of several sketches, which I then revisited and overdubbed every week over the course of 2019's summer.

The Green Kingdom - Saint Lawrence

Another experiment with electric guitar loops. The main difference between today's and yesterday's (https://soundcloud.com/disquiet/passing-waves) is that yesterday's was recorded serial, so anything coming from the first loop also appeared in the second loop. That gave it a certain density, but, well, it also gave it a certain density. This was recorded in parallel, meaning whichever looper was recording at a given moment was only recording what was being played by the guitar, not what happened to be coming out of the other looper. This means the density took quite a while longer to achieve, but also that the individual segments are much more distinct, even after density has accrued. Also, the loops are quite a bit longer. Recorded from stereo speakers into a phone (yesterday was from a mono amp), though I'm not sure if the separation is particularly apparent. Major noise reduction in Adobe Audition, and a tiny amount of reverb.

Parallel Normal

This track is me practicing eurorack performance using the Beatstep Pro as the major sequencer and keyboard. Étude Béat, meaning a blissful study. The Beatstep Pro design promotes dance oriented music and its built in probability appears to use heuristics typical for the genre. In a way, the sequencer has its inherent cantus firmus.
