As a thank you for a wonderful Gaggalacka festival at the end of last summer, here comes the next musical journey for you: A Purple Playground. It consists of eleven tracks bringing you the feeling of the festival sound from noon until night plus three marvelous downbeat tracks as a soft and emotional closing. Many of the involved artists have already played at previous Gaggalacka parties and some promising new names have been chosen for this compilation. Enjoy this journey and hope to see you all again when the next Gaggalacka calls from the 5th to the 7th of September, 2014. Erased Tapes label mates Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm record and mix their first collaborative record between Reyjkjavík and Berlin as a surprise release for label founder Robert Raths.

The ambient/electronic work ‘Stare’ is a true family effort from Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm with Anne Müller joining in on cello and all graphics by close label-friend and now in-house designer Torsten Posselt of Feld Studios.

This release will be strictly limited and exclusively available on Record Store Day 2012, April 21st. Coinciding with the 5th Anniversary of Erased Tapes, it’s also available from the official Erased Tapes online store and sure to become a must-have for fans of the label and these two artists.

Recorded at Phoenix Sound inside the world-famous Pinewood Studios – home of the British film industry and a location chosen by Michael Price as 'a haven for me in a noisy world' – December 17th marks his debut release as the latest addition to the Erased Tapes family in the form of 'A Stillness'; a four-track limited edition vinyl including music sheets and downloads.

Renowned for his work as film composer, producer and award-winning music editor, this small collection of songs shows a more personal side of Price, a chance for him to create music without any scripts and guidelines.

'I'm trying to create a small Stillness in a noisy, hyper-connected world. I wanted to make something personal and real, with musicians that I've known for a long time. Usually we've all got headphones on, chasing click tracks and fitting our performances to picture. It was time to get the headphones off, stop all the clocks and ticking, really connect musically and try to capture a moment. To be able to make something intimate and authentic in an often noisy world is a real pleasure.

When I heard what we had, there was only one collection of musicians and artists that felt a natural fit, and that was Erased Tapes. I'd always admired Robert's artistic vision, and the way that he created a nurturing, collaborative environment around the artists he worked with. It's a privilege to be even a small part of that.'

I could give you my background, but it wouldn't really tell you how it shaped me. I could show you photos, but you would just see my mask. I could tell you a story, but lyrical self expressions aren't my forte. You could ask my friends, but they'd give you their version of me. 

But if you were to just listen intently to some of the music I make, you'll hear my soul ripped intricately open for all to see....

David grew up surrounded by music (at least until he took his mother’s record player apart at the age of 6 to see how it worked). His favourite toys were those that made or recorded sound. One of his most loved being the Stylaphone, which he was given at the age of 4.
David began Djing at the age of 18, playing local events and clubs whenever the opportunity arose, often for free, solely for the enjoyment and satisfaction it gave him.

Whilst at University in Manchester, UK, David co formed and ran a successful club night for 3 years, playing to a loyal, continuously growing crowd every fortnight. Success in this arena lead to David securing many bookings at local clubs and events around the North West of England.

Through his love for Djing, David felt an increasing desire to create his own music, and explore the soundscapes that were building up in his mind.

The day that profoundly changed David’s life, and enabled him to realise his life long dream occurred by chance. A friend took him into the University music studio, briefly showed him how to turn the keyboards and equipment on, gave a ten minute lesson in the music production software on the computer, and left the room. 6 hours flew by, completely hooked, he had found the path he had been searching for since he was a child.

Ever since, every penny he shouldn’t have spent, every spare moment he has, goes on letting emotions flow through sound. 

David donates much of all royalties received from the sales of his music to good causes.
