Aroma Pitch Recordings the third! The DJ Trio and Live-Act finished their third EP on APR and it's ready to get the plays it deserves. With this one the boys have reached a new level of production and maturity. Three tracks full of twists and turns making this a perfect kickstart for a timeless summer.

"Moments In Limbo" delivers a heavy bassdrum and moody chords combined with raw analogue drumsounds and a synthline to wrap your head around. "Up & Down" comes around way trickier and combines tweaked synth sounds with an intelligent drum programming and an acidic bassline. Until a dub chord hits you from behind and takes you all the way back. "Voyager Dub" is clearly an hommage to early dubtechno. Spacious sounds, long delays and an impelling hi-hat that won't let you go makes this the hidden gem on this EP. As soon as the Pad kicks in you are all gone to another sphere.

The releases on Curle roughly go anywhere between deep house and solid techno, but Hiver’s deep techno sound is probably what I appreciate most myself if I had to choose. Melodic, floating and based on traditions but without sounding like something you already heard too often, that’s about how I would describe the Italian duo’s second Curle EP. Their first one got played by Sven Väth and Efdemin just to name a few. Hiver hold a residency at Milan’s Dude Club, but in the meantime have played everywhere from Dimensions festival to Panorama Bar.

Visionquest release the first single from Wareika’s forthcoming long player late January, coming in the shape of ‘Keen To Rebel’ and accompanied by Ryan Crosson, Dewalta & Shannon, and Boronas remixes.

The musical trio of Florian Schirmacher, Henrik Raabe and Jakob Seidensticker aka Wareika have carved out quite the career over the past eight years, racking up releases for Zip’s Perlon imprint, Circus Company, Tartelet and Connaisseur Recordings. Here we see the group push on with their fourth album project and the second for Visionquest following ‘Wternal’ in 2013, once again encompassing their unique brand of electronica across the release.

Ahead of the full L.P., Visionquest release the ‘Keen To Rebel’ single, opening with the original collaboration by Wareika and Swiss producer Miajica, co-founder of the fleeting wax imprint alongside Mehmet Aslan. In their typical fashion the collective treat us to an intricately unfolding composition fuelled by staccato guitar licks and psychedelic vocal swells alongside snaking bass grooves and rising arpeggios. Visionquest co founder Ryan Crosson then steps up on remix duties next delivering a more robust take on things with rumbling subs, upfront rhythms and unrelenting dub echoes of the original parts throughout.

Opening the latter half of the package Dewalta & Shannon turn in their eleven-minute interpretation and as always from the duo stripped back low-slung rhythms, complex production tricks and a naturally hypnotic feel are prevalent throughout its ever-blossoming arrangement. Germany’s Boronas rounds off the package with his remix as a digital only bonus, dropping the tempo and applying a smooth and subtly developing feel to things via drawn out filter sweeps and a chugging groove.

- ‘Outrage’ is a compilation of Maarten van der Vleuten’s Integrity project tracks, originally released on R&S sub-label Outrage Recordings in 1992, now remastered by Matt Colton

Maarten van der Vleuten is one of the most influential figures in the Dutch scene, and also a man of many aliases - between 1987 to 2007 he racked up releases with over two dozen projects producing Detroit techno, electro, house, experimental and ambient tracks and remixes.

Still highly active and inspired in 2018, R&S see the Outrage release as a perfect opportunity to re-introduce Van der Vleuten’s masterful productions to a new generation, adding to his existing influential fans such as Optimo, Global Communication, Ellen Allien and Dave Clarke.

During the 90s he recorded mainly dance/techno for R&S Records, as Orpheus, 48V Phantom Power and Mantrax. He also memorably released on Apollo Records (check his excellent In-Existence ‘Moonwater’ album), Djax-Up-Beats, See Saw and Klang Elektronik amongst others. 

Van Der Vleuten’s ongoing collaboration with R&S founder Renaat Vanderpapeliere saw the later set up Outrage Recordings in early 1992 to release Van der Vleuten’s tracks that didn't fit on R&S Records, recording as Integrity, Zimt, Flux and Pultec. 

“Every couple of weeks i would drive up to Ghent with my new tracks and meet Renaat,” explains Martin. "We then went straight to Foon Mastering where we played the DATs and decided which tracks would be cut - i had carte blanche when it came to the 'sound' of the label. 

Van der Vleuten’s music on Outrage Recordings moved in the opposite direction of the contemporary rave and gabber scenes; while Techno became faster and shifted to a more aggressive sound, Van der Vleuten focused more on composing and arranging over danceability.  This resulted in these EP’s being difficult to sell back in 92 but listening now it feels vital and fresh well over two decades since they were recorded which is an obvious sign of 
Van Der Vleuten’s deft talent.

The release also includes Van der Vleuten’s collaborations with another dutch icon, Mike Kivits (aka DJ Aardvarck). The pair first met In 1989 when Kivits would sometimes play his demos on cassette-tapes at local clubs. The pair became fast friends and Van Der Vieuten invited Kivits into the studio where they found a natural chemistry that ultimately resulted in the tracks ‘Nightshift’ and ‘Intens’ which feature on ‘Outrage’, both written and recorded on the same day.

Aos’ boundless love for music is apparent in everything she does. As a producer, a DJ, and an event organizer with Seattle’s secondnature and TUF collectives, Kayla Waldorf’s vision eschews traditional categories and genre boxes in favor of an ecstatic spontaneity. Her DJ sets are well known for their playful energy and narrative threading between many different styles. Violent Light is Aos’ first offering on secondnature’s own label, and it captures this playful essence.

The title track’s stomping groove (complete with rave whistle) sets the tone, while Lullaby and What/Why move into headier territory composed of dusty synths stabs and clouds of vocal effects. Finally, secondnature’s own Fugal delivers a remix that flips What/Why into a rolling depth charge.

The history of underground electronic music is littered with inspired releases that, for one reason or other, slipped through the cracks. It would be fair to say that Trans-4M’s 1992 debut album, Sublunar Oracles, is one such release.

The full-length originally appeared on Belgian dance music megalith Buzz, an imprint whose output tended towards the more commercial end of the dance music market. Initially, Sublunar Oracles failed to make much impact and was championed only by a small group chill-out DJs; these days, it’s rightly considered a lost classic and one of the most overlooked albums of the ambient house era.

It’s certainly an inspired set with a story to tell. It was the product of the blossoming studio relationship between brothers Stefan and Dimitri Van Elsen. The former, the elder of the two, had been making a living as a club DJ on the Belgian scene since the early 1980s, taking up electronic music production following years spent playing experimental and industrial fare on local pirate station Radio Centraal. Dimitri, meanwhile, spent his days studying jazz piano and his evenings working on tracks.

The chance to release a collection of their bedroom productions came via a friend who worked for Buzz. The Van Elsen brothers grasped the opportunity, sequencing and tweaking a set of evocative, otherworldly tracks that had initially been written and produced over the best part of four years.

Despite Stefan’s status as a working club DJ, Sublunar Oracles largely looked towards the vibrant chill-out and ambient house scenes for inspiration, combining their own manipulated synthesizer sounds, dreamy jazz chord progressions and gentle beats with a smorgasbord of spoken word samples and home-made field recordings.

The Antwerp-based brothers designed the set as a concept album of sorts, with a clear narrative thread running through the album’s eight intoxicating and ethereal tracks. However, they never made this concept public, and it’s down to a new generation of listeners to piece together the story themselves.

26 years on from its initial release, the Van Elsens’ lost classic is getting a new lease of life via a Safe Trip reissue that stretches the original’s eight inspired tracks over two heavyweight slabs of wax. Beginning with the breakbeat-driven bliss of “Arrival”, the album bobs and weaves its way through deep ambient house, sublime horizontal soundscapes, saxophone-laden electronic mysticism, dusty downtempo grooves and glassy-eyed positivity.

This background influenced him to operate house, deep house, progressive house, techno involving the crowd in a non- stop journey into sound since he was 16. He used to work in radios, clubs in Hungary.

Phil moved to London, where he is bringing fun and energy from the summer of 2013 to the dance floor to give for the Londoners the sense for going out, let loose and feel free.

His performances are characterised by energetic sets and catchy tunes.
