Geboren mit Rhythmus im Blut, verbrachte Baerbel ihre frühe Kindheit und Jugend als multidisziplinäre Tänzerin. Durch die Erkundung der deutschen Underground Drum’n’Bass-Szene wuchs ihr Interesse an elektronischer Musik, bis sie vor über 10 Jahren ihr endgültiges Ziel und die Techno-Hauptstadt Berlin in ihren Bann zog.
2021 fand sie schließlich etwas, das ihr den gleichen Nervenkitzel verschaffte, wie jahrelang als Tänzerin auf der Bühne zu stehen - der Wechsel hinter die Decks. Es füllte eine Lücke in ihr, die leer war, seit sie ihre Tanzkarriere beendet hatte, um Biologin zu werden. Über zehn Jahre sammelte Baerbel Einflüsse von verschiedenen Techno- und Psy-KünstlerInnen, die zu ihrem groovigen und treibenden Sound führten. Ihr Ziel ist es, eine Atmosphäre zu schaffen, die dich in eine Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle entführt, aus der du erschöpft und glücklich wieder herausgeschleudert wirst.

INTERVIEW:
1. Wie lange legst Du nun schon auf und wie hast Du es gelernt?

Baerbel: Seit 1.5 Jahren und ich habe es mir mit der Hilfe von FreundInnen selbst beigebracht.

2. Gibt es ein bestimmtes Event oder Moment an das/den Du Dich gerne zurückerinnerst?

B: Mein erstes offizielles Booking beim Feel Festival. Ich kam gerade aus einer sehr schweren Krise und habe das Set im Krankenhaus vorbereitet und mich gefühlt wie ein Reh, das gerade laufen lernt. Ich war dann aber mächtig stolz auf mich und das Gefühl werde ich nie vergessen.

3. Was wünschst Du Dir, sollte in der Clubszene .anders laufen?

B: Mehr Sichtbarkeit, Raum und Safe Spaces für FLINTA* und BIPOC. Weniger Hierarchien und vor allem mehr Diversity bei BookerInnen und VeranstalterInnen.

4. Wie würdest Du Deinen Sound beschreiben?

B: Als Baerbel heize ich mit groovigem Psytechno und einer wilden Mischung aus anderen Technogenres die Nächte ein und unter dem Namen Baerbelle pitsche ich Europop - Houseremixes nach belieben hoch und treibt damit alle in den Wahnsinn.

5. Was liegt Dir neben dem Auflegen noch sehr am Herzen?

B: Awarenessarbeit für Mental Health Themen! Enttabuisierung und Gleichstellung von psychischen und physischen Erkrankungen.

6. Wenn Du ein Wort wärst, welches wäre das?

B: Baerbel

7. Musik machen bedeutet für Dich …?

B: Emotionen kreieren und freilassen

8. Hast Du bestimmte Pläne, Ziele, von denen Du uns erzählen möchtest?

B: Selbst Musik produzieren und einen eigenen Track auf der Fusion spielen.

▌I What’s your favorite club and what’s your favorite festival - explain why!
My favorite club is actually not really a club but it's the place where I've been hosting events since late 2015. It's a small venue in my hometown. Inside a greenhouse we dance the night away. It's like being in your own living room with your best friends.
Regarding my favorite festival... this is a tough one. But I think I will go for Wildeburg, the (much smaller) equivalent to Fusion in terms of getting lost, decoration etc. The crowd is very nice, the location is magical and the whole production is just top notch. I've been part of it for some years now and it's always a highlight.

▌II Did your approach on creating music change during the pandemic and did it maybe even influence your style?
During the pandemic, I kind of stepped away from the more organic downtempo sound and explored the more electronic/deep house spectrum. As I like many styles of music, I don't like doing just one thing, I get bored easily. So I still keep creating a lot of stuff. There are a few EPs in the works, excited to share it soon.

▌III How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
I just got back from a lovely time in Berlin, playing in Klunkerkranich :-) We did a labelnight with the Magician of Duty family. It inspired me to work on this mix the week after I returned. The mix contains some of my upcoming releases, some edits I play in my sets, and tracks by other talented people.

AUGMENTED'S RAINBOW SET

It all started with a frequency moving through parallel universes and other dimensions waiting for the right time to evolve into human form. Even before he was born Tim McCallum was kicking out beats in the womb and as soon as he could crawl he was picking up anything that made a sound.

Tim (aka Augmented) always had an affinity with sound and music. Like many other humans he was able to take solitude in the music he grew up with as it gave him a way to escape, a way to change emotion, a way to remember and a way to forget.

Augmented takes these concepts and keeps them in mind. Making every track he writes a story and every set creates a journey; you only have to witness an Augmented set to see how much love and dedication he has for his craft. Ol’ Augie takes pride in finding and composing music that will leave a dance floor as passionate and enthusiastic about music as he is.  

Augmented’s sound infuses bold, rolling basslines with a filthy bottom end structure, laced with lush pads, ear tickling hats, organic percussion, obscure melodies and quirky samples recorded from facets of his own life. He creates a unique experience that will simultaneously stimulate aurally, mentally and physically, enabling natural grooves for the dance floor and taking the audience to his ‘Augmented Reality’. He has released on Smash Bang Records and has remixes out on Vicious Black and Anarkick Records. 

When he’s not conjuring up his magic in the studio, you can catch him continuing his monthly residency at Melbourne's premier underground club night Black Market, and keeping up regular appearances for local crews acollectivefuture, Instinct Events, and Quality Projekt. He has performed at some of Australia's leading underground music festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Subsonic, Maitreya, & Forgotten Kingdom, and internationally on the Red Square stage at Fusion Festival.
