Our latest mix is from musician CFCF, Mike Silver, who’s recent album Memoryland is a staple at Editorial HQ.  CFCF hones his skill for world-building in his latest release, which serves as a sentimental homage to the 90s intersection of commercial electronica and angsty alt rock. In his Editorial Mag mix, CFCF explores this milieu further, breathy foreign vocals breeze over mid-late 90s vinyl lounge music, taking us into a European internet cafe with bowl sized cappuccinos and beautiful jet-set youth.

For the title track of her album “Fast Fashion” (Deathbomb Arc, 2021), Lolina cut up videos of Nicolas Ghesquière’s Balenciaga Fall 2007 and Spring 2010 runway shows to create a new audio composition. She continues this experiment in DJ sets and mixes: “Fashion Moment 1999”, a collage of Tom Ford’s Gucci Spring and Fall 1999 runway soundtracks (mix for NTS 10 Curated by Arca, 2021); “Spring Summer Fall Winter” mixing soundtracks to Christophe Decarnin’s Balmain 2008 and 2009 fashion shows (DJ set at Avalon Cafe, London, 2022); and “Nothing In This World Is Free”, a mix for C minus using music to Alber Elbaz’s 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011 collections for Lanvin (recorded live at Soup, Manchester, 2023).

Composer, producer, guitarist and vocalist ML Buch dazzles us with the latest Off-Kilter submission featuring previously unheard, unreleased music and an insight into the gentle makings of her latest album, Suntub. 

A dive into her sonic world and a glimpse of the songwriting processes, this hour long collage meanders through acapella and acoustic versions of existing tracks, sketches, ideas, loops, sound clips and other raw material. 

Blissful intimate pop-tinged electronic soundscapes; playful, glistening harmonies reverberating together, weaving and dissipating into air. It’s like the prequel to Subtub and sequel to the next album; the audio version of looking through an artist sketchbook. A reflection on where this journey began, where it is now and where, at some point, it may belong.

ML Buch is Marie Louise Buch, a Copenhagen-based composer, producer, guitarist and vocalist. Following the EP ‘Fleshy’ in 2017 she released her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Skinned’ on Danish imprint Anyines in 2020. ‘Suntub’ is her second full length release, a double album consisting of 15 tracks released in October 2023 on new label 15 love. 

In her compositional practice ML Buch sketches up her music in an almost architectural way. The raw material is generated through immersion in playing and assembling as a way of triggering random magic. Her live performances, both in solo and group formations, is reflective of her love of combining 7-string electric guitars in open tunings with synthetic instruments and electronic experiments.

Augustina Moore (b. 1999 Vashon Island) is a trans songwriter & musician, DJ, & sound designer living and working in Seattle, Washington. As a selector and producer, August’s offerings blur reconstructed clubland frenetics into the hyper-familiarity of dancefloor heritage groove.

For this episode, she brings us a mix titled “Dawn of a New Day”. In her own words:

For this mix I wanted to embody and explore the concept of the “day-night cycle”, and the way video game music helps define and set atmosphere in relation to time of day. The mix is split into three distinct sections (morning, day, and night) and follows a loose imagined narrative of a day in the life of a game character! I like to use music in a very functional way to soundtrack my day and activities (I have specific music / playlists for things like studying, cooking, going for a walk, taking a shower), and was imagining this character / the listener doing the same with this mix: brushing their teeth and making breakfast to the first section, running errands and taking the train to the second, and winding down while reading a book to the final section. I pulled VGM from some of my all-time favorite games & composers, games that I've been meaning to play forever, and also some weird obscure OSTs my friends have put me onto (shoutout Cori, Mason & Natasha !!!).
