Idrîsî E. believes in the inter-connectedness of our lands, people and musical practices. Our role is to represent ourselves beyond myths of foundational purity, towards a cultural syncretism embodied in manuscripts and practices, through ancient, contemporary, oral or written traditions. We are currently working towards a new performance practice of troubadour music (and trobairitz poetry) using principles of tuning and ornamentation found in Old Roman, Byzantine, and Mediterranean repertoires.

Idrîsî was a Muslim cartographer educated in Cordoba. By invitation of Norman King Roger II, he travelled to Sicily and created a revolutionary world map. With his rigour, practice of ancient Ptolemean principles and modern techniques, intertwining points of views, and determination to represent both the West and East, he created a uniquely modern depiction of our world.

Sylvia Lim is a composer based in the UK. Her works are intimate, exploring a small amount of material in depth. She is interested in the materiality of sound, notions of close listening, perception, rawness and instability.

Each composition is based on the transformation of the various textile patterns or weaves into musical language. The methodology of mapping is concluded in PhD thesis at Durham University.  Textile patterns reflects distinct motions and atmosphere due its different structure and description. Indian ragas serves for the structure of harmony in order to construct a close relationship between sounds and textile patterns. Every Indian ragas has its own time, duration, specific mode of pitches as the textile patterns, which reflect various cultures and weaving methods.

Current Views is a band/art collective. Stream our EP 'Hindsight is 2020'! 

Current Views was founded by European Bob and Rora in the midst of the pandemic in 2020. 

During her studies at the Guildhall School in 2019, Rora was set to write a piece for pianist, Angela Novy and violinist, Giulia Lussoso. Inspired by Philip Venables and David Hoyle’s piece ‘Illusions’, Rora wanted to write a socially and culturally engaged piece expressed through spoken word and music, so she asked European Bob to share some of his poetry. From this initial collaboration was born ‘Not My Lover’. European Bob’s poem is at the centre of the piece and is a kind of love letter to England inspired by Allen Ginsberg’s poem, ‘America’. 

After working on 'Not My Lover' they decided to make a genre-jumping album that explores the interplay between music, language, visual art, and performance. They invited more creatives to join and form the band Current Views. They recently released their first EP, ‘Hindsight is 2020’ which is a social commentary on British life over the past few years.
