The B-side of this humorously titled release is hands down one of my favourite tracks of all time, and definitely my favourite Levon Vincent creation. One of the few records that I can honestly say is well worth the high marketplace price, though I hope my copy gives me years of play! There's really no fitting description for this shifting chugger; it's a totally melodic and dubby slice of techno with a nice, subtle tinge of house-y-ness. It keeps going and going, with every element in its perfect place. Lots of reverb and warped sounds that build a series of layered loops from some ultimately quite simple components. For me that's the mark of perfection: a fugue-like cycle that plays on a perfect kick, bass drum, etc. And did I mention there are some VERY fat synth chords? Oh, and I just listened to it again and must add that there are some sweet pitched up lasers. I've always had a soft spot for the sound of lasers! Mmmmmm, Woman Is The Devil indeed.

shtum’s latest artist is none other than Avalon Emerson, who hits hard with her first appearance on the Dresden-based label with a record full of techno beauties. “Constantly My Cure (Vocal Mix)” features vocals by Avalon herself that ride on an unstoppable acid-driven bassline towards a forceful and paradoxically cold yet warm climax. “Constantly My Cure (Plan Around Me Dub)”, offers an instrumental redux that's less ambiguous in its intentions — this one's aimed straight for maximum dancefloor effect. "Sword and Rose Forever" shows once again that she knows how to create relentless club music imbued with beautifully bittersweet atmosphere. The EP closes with the punch of "Hurdy Gurdy DJ Tool," a break-laden machine-piston of a rhythmic workout that's made for those selectors who want to set fire to the floor and jam the energy up to a frenetic peak.

The night sky was clear and only a gentle breeze could be felt in the air. She was sure every star seemed that little bit brighter tonight but maybe she was just imagining it. As she looked out across the crystal waters that lay in front of her something in the distance caught her eye. Partly submerged in the glistening depths of the lake, it began to float towards her, slowly coming into focus under the moonlit sky. She lent forward, eyes narrowed, hoping to get a better look at the mysterious object. As it reached her feet, she smiled widely. She’d been waiting for this arrival for a long time.

Sao Paulo-based producer Davis returns for his second release on Live at Robert Johnson with Ordinary Sleep. On this three-track EP he weaves through breakbeat, acid and trance influences, characterised by his signature synthwave melodies. Ordinary Sleep will be released on 22nd February.
