DJ Ethanol makes his debut on QRUK with Test Press EP, a heavyweight, release that fuses elements of UKG, Breaks and Electro through a transatlantic lens. Originally from the underground scenes of North Carolina, and now based in Edinburgh, DJ Ethanol brings a rugged, textural sound shaped by free parties. The title track is a driving cut that layers industrial percussion, acid stabs and fractured vocal chops into something raw and unpredictable.

On remix duties is UK veteran UMT, whose decades-deep history in Garage and Breakbeat culture informs a stripped-back, sub-loaded take on the original. With recent support from the likes of DJ EZ, Quest and J:Kenzo, his remix lands somewhere between 2-step swing and minimal pressure, tailored for low-ceiling D-floors.

For the label’s latest release, Oath is proud to welcome into the fold Art-Aud and Secret Rave founder and producer extraordinaire Kreggo, who serves up his one-of-a-kind blend of stylistically boundless sounds and evocative, thought-provoking atmospheres….

Since 2014, Kreggo has carved out a significant trajectory across electronic music, via both his signature productions and via the highly lauded Art-Aud imprint. His craft and vision are found throughout his productions, which weave elegantly from morphologic IDM and Acid numbers through to hypnotic, expressive Breaks, Bass and Techno. Stylistically, he allows the winds of change to flow through his music, with every release showcasing new motifs and ideals that align effortlessly with what came before. This continual building out of his sound has helped to craft a unique and progressively engaging musical universe, one that contains such intricacies and depth that it borders on the exquisite. His sound has seen him release on some of the most prominent labels going, including the likes of Furthur Electronix, Nottetempo, Nous’klaer Audio, and Clone, to name but a few. His helming of Art-Aud has overseen some extraordinary releases, which have often left trailblazing marks across the underground and are testament to his passion for building the imprint’s sound and identity.

‘Labi Inside’ comes with the drums and bass getting the pulses immediately racing. The groove skips and steps with glee, creating an immediately transfixing rhythm which the melodic features begin to wash over and occupy the in-between spaces. The track naturally evolves through time, with new percussive elements and emotive features worming their way into the mix. It's a groover that has such heart and soul intertwined deep within, and as the phases roll on and on, a sense of perpetuity kicks in as the track lingers long in the memory. ‘Obabi’ comes next, and like with the EP opener, this one unravels into life. A pulsating rhythmic undercurrent sets the stage for piercing, deep-set notes and hums, which interchange at will within a hypnotic melange. The mid-point breakdown allows the track to reset, before billowing back into life with its wondrous synergy intact.

Kreggo has always presented music that exudes warmth, ingenuity, and space for sonic evolution, and it's an approach that has served up some special moments within his production career. ‘Altro Mood’ is the latest incarnation of his sound, where rhythmic mazes interlock with enticing, deftly collected melodic features, with each track revamping and building upon one another. It's an auditory narrative that is as broad as it is concise, as bold as it is gentle, and as energised as it is meandering - and represents an experience that will linger long in the memory…..

With a finely tuned ear for rave-ready energy and soul-soothing melodies, Manchester duo Cortese continue a run of fine form. Following standout releases on LNOE and Hotflush, they make their long-awaited debut on Constant Circles with the Parallels EP - an essential slice of forward thinking UKG.

Two original cuts lead the way, showcasing Cortese’s signature blend of nostalgic garage vibes and cutting-edge production. These are closely followed by two standout remixes: label boss Just Her delivers a deep and driving rework, while Jozef K, known for his immersive sonic textures, delivers a haunting atmospheric twist, each bringing a new flavour to appease any dance floor.

PREMIERE : Cortese - Parallels

Despite the front cover, this is no-frills territory with Galvin slip-n-sliding his way into Firm Tracks' discography with panache. 

Slightly confusing, but we've actually nabbed the second release from the burgeoning, New York imprint. The first, which comes via Ali Berger, lands later this month, but it's "Tape Jam4" that firmly corkscrewed necks and sets the tone for the label. Masterminded in the noisey warehouses of the Bushwick Underground by husband and wife, Susie and Will Martin, Firm are on a quest to release music exclusively from yet unreleased artists. Each record comes silkscreened by hand with considerable amounts of love to boot.

Pittsburgh's Davis Galvin takes to the reins for today's Debut; an eight-minute head-nodder with a gargantuan build-up to match. Techno that will urge any limp-legged partygoer to move; light and melodic tempo at its finest.

Starting life off as a cassette label in 2012, @UKNOWYMusic has since expanded into the vinyl realm. Based in Munich, Germany, the imprint is also host to beat event nights in its hometown. The premise behind UKNOWY is simple. It's about following a passion. In this case it's a passion for music. Although they try to minimize boundaries concerning genres, they seem to have a penchant for hip hop style beats with a sprinkle of house music on top. Both genres, among others, are represented throughout the label's previous releases of which there are now close to twenty. Currently, they've only had two vinyl releases, both firmly rooted in house. One in 2015 from Peter Clamat and the second in 2016 from Nemoy, with the forthcoming release being their third pressed to wax. If keeping with the current pattern, it may very likely be their only vinyl release of 2017.

"Our Roots" EP is the third aforementioned 12" and it comes from Swiss producer @Delakeyz, who you may know better as his melodic, beat-producing alias @Melodiesinfonie. The three track release comes with two remixes as well. One from Manchester-based Contours and the other from Austrian Moony Me. Our premiere today is the A1 and original mix of the title track 'Our Roots'. Dropping an afro-latin percussion groove over a steady house rhythm, Delakeyz is clearly gunning for the dance floor. Adding moody chords and atmospheric strings, the producer can't stay away from his melodic roots as he keys in squelchy, jazzy sequences over top. The sultry vocals are the cherry on top of a track that has both a solid groove and seductive yet wistful air about it.

'Fallen Down' is the second EP from Tee Mango and Will Saul’s Primitive Trust project, featuring a remix by Shanti Celeste.
The title track weaves percussive shuffles and vocal refrains with glowing synths, whilst colourful melodic layers and resonating vocal stabs armour the choppy live drums of ‘Day One’. 
Dekmantel regular Shanti Celeste does what she does best with her remix of Fallen Down in building a rich, hypnotic groove that steadily develops with intricacy and depth, whilst ‘Big Tracky Disco Tool’ is exactly that.

LA-based music company, Godmode, is known for taking way-left artists and bringing them slightly more to the center.  After breaking Shamir and Yaeji, the label is back with their latest signing, Channel Tres. Channel grew up in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles, and his music is a clear representation of the surly attitude of West Coast rap reimagined with the stylings of Detroit house. Fans of Galcher Lustwerk would be wise to check out this project. Similar to the NYC legend, Channel’s voice is effortlessly deep, expertly processed, and a perfect compliment to his deep, sultry instrumentals.

“Top Down” oozes swagger. While a Paranoid London-esque acid bassline rips through ethereal pads, Channel croons, “bet you ain't never heard shit like this from the block before.” He’s not completely wrong. While he’s not the first to champion a sound like this, he certainly has few modern peers. Aside from how dope the song is, I really appreciate the emphasis he places on individuality as an artist. He says, “never let the scene choose you. Never met a man this cool.” For me, it’s essential for a musician to be original, to believe in the uniqueness of their music, and to not conform to the standards set by a saturated scene. Going forward, I hope Channel sticks to his words. It’s not everyday you hear a debut this polished and full of a variety of influences. I’ll be waiting to hear these tunes at my NYC after-hours, but until then, I’m about to cut the top off my Saturn and slow-ride through Brooklyn. Here’s your invite.
