'Out of the Deep Blue' is an outdoor physical theatre performance featuring a large-scale Sea Giant Puppet and a female performer, inspired by the themes of the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis.

'Out of the Deep Blue' is a large-scale performance, featuring 1 female contemporary dancer and a 4-metre tall sea giant puppet operated by 5 puppeteers.

This outdoor spectacle is designed specifically for family and festival audiences and tells the magical story of Eko the sea giant who rises from the deep ocean and encounters, on the shore, a little girl called Violet.

The choreography is a larger-than-life ‘pas de deux’ using dance theatre and movement as storytelling tools and is set to a mesmerising musical soundscape. ‘Out of the Deep Blue’ exists as a two-part performance; one 20-minute long promenade of the giant puppet interacting with its environment and the audience and a 30-minute dance theatre duet located at a set performance space.

The whirr of the wind cutting across a rocky beach, the whoosh of the waves lapping the shore… The illusion of calm is broken when EKO, a sentient Sea Giant, pads onto dry land. There he encounters a young girl called Violet. And that’s where the story begins. 
 
Autin Dance Theatre’s new outdoor show Out of the Deep Blue is a tale told in two parts - an interactive promenade and a physical theatre duet - transports its audiences into another world, to tell a story about our own. 
 
Through dance, movement and masterful puppeteering, Out of the Deep Blue dives into the themes of the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis in an outdoor spectacle featuring a 13-foot-tall Puppet operated by 5 world-class puppeteers and contemporary dancers. 
 
The show has been designed with children and family audiences in mind, and this magical story about the power of empathy and collaboration between these two beings - an ancient creature, a dispirited teen - speaks to the world at large.
