Just after midnight I was awoken by a loud crack of thunder and within a minute or two there was torrential rain and frequent thunder and lightning. My daughter bless her woke up to tell me I should record it (she knows me well) but I was already on it, setting up the rig.

I placed my rig outside in a space under a fir tree that seems to stay perpetually dry, which allowed for this outside but waterproof perspective.

It was too cloudy to see any actual lightning bolts but the picture is a moment I managed to photograph at the moment of one of the strikes lighting the sky up.
