Tammo Hesselink inaugurates his newly launched imprint Rear View Memory, intended for occasional outings of personal works. On this first release called ‘Borrowed Wheels’ the Dutch producer combines his rhythmic side with his modern hypnotic techno approach. Tammo has developed an outstanding body of work under a range of alias’ since the mid-2010’s, first releasing via his own imprint “The Invariants” before seeing his music published on famed Dutch platforms Delsin Records and Nous Klaer Audio in more recent years.

For this Premiere, we hop on the B side of the record for a halftime drum & bass workout in collaboration with Romanian producer DYL. DYL is a Romania based experimental producer on his real name “Eduard Costea” with releases on such labels as Alphacut, One Seventy, RE:ST, Nord Label and many more. Both the artists developed a distinctive style with a genre-bending approach. ‘Prelude’ manages to draw a fine line in between UK techno, bass and post-dubstep.

Pure Space returns with our final release of 2022, delivered by none other than Zara - a warm light shining from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia).

Crafted in the midst of Australia’s last summer, these tracks capture the blissful and euphoric feeling of warm weather and the potential it brings…

Starting on an ambient note and progressing to drum & bass, the release seeks to take listeners on a transcendental journey to a freaky realm.

We start with Pirr, a track representative of dawn and the new beginnings it brings. It’s an eerie, yet anticipatory feeling lingers in the air as the rising sun diminishes the darkness and reveals the beauty of the landscape. Soft kicks coupled with bird song gently grasp the attention, effortlessly drawing you into the release.

Guitar and reverb drums define the second track, Idyll. Switching the mood to melancholia where the track meanders around floaty vocals creating a gentle fluidity throughout.

Entering the DnB realm, Quixotic combines driving hi-hats, wubs, bass to instigate movement. The floating female vocals carry you through the track guiding you on what feels like a utopian dream.

Synthesised drums are combined with heavy bass, arps and breaks to represent the peak of the journey. A chaotic, albeit warm track with and trippy moments in time.

As the sun sets once again, the arc of the journey ends on acid synths, arps, claps and hi hats on Elysium. Transporting the listener into a sleep, a moment of peace or back down to earth.

For the first album release on Pure Space - and a welcome addition to our Home Listening Series - we are excited to present "At Every Corner" by Mara, a pivotal figure in Eora/Sydney's experimental music community.

Since 2020, the Home Listening series has showcased the introspective and wandering side of the label, featuring releases from Jennifer Loveless, jobfit, and 黑芝麻 (Hēi zhī ma). This series diverges from club constricts, inviting listeners to explore deeper, more contemplative soundscapes.

Throughout "At Every Corner", Mara weaves a rich tapestry of sound, creating captivating composites of audio snippets taken from her travels and performances along the way. The result is a mesmerising long-play that invites the listener into an ever wandering journey.

“The Time It Takes” was composed during an artist residency in Itoshima, Japan. The track is structured in three parts using recordings of the three songs that would ring out through the town like clockwork at 8am, 12pm and 6pm. These signals, whether for timekeeping for farmers or testing the evacuation system, became the unintentional checkpoints for Mara’s time throughout this trip: the basis in keeping focus in the day, or finding the time to turn off for the evening, or a fleeting moment to tune into a collective listening experience.
