Atlanta based producer Stefan Ringer has been working dilligently on his output as he closes out 2014 with two new projects, one being The Fix EP, under his given name, on veteran house producer Kai Alcé’s NDATL Muzik. 

Ringer has been bouncing between his government name and another production alias known as REKchampa and each pseudonym becomes more defined track by track.

OnThe Fix, there’s a flirtatious undercurrent throughout the EP, especially in regards to the vocals that Ringer laid down himself. The overarching vibe of the project was created with the women of the dancefloor in mind, and the result is a warm collection of body movers that are smooth, yet course around the edges.

Over the past 6 years WOLF Music have earned their stripes as stalwart purveyors of refined House and Disco. Now, in the follow up to Medlar and Greymatter’s debut LPs and EPs from the likes of Ishmael, Ossie and Casino Times they ready their 3rd LP from Dutchman Frits Wentink.

Now residing in Amsterdam, Frits has a glowing back catalogue of soulful, Lo Fi club material that’s touched Heist Recordings as well as WOLF in the form of his ‘Mouse’ and ‘Goose’ EPs. With an experimental approach to hardware and instrumentation, his work blooms naturally through jams and improv and in this - his debut LP: ‘Rarely Pure, Never Simple’ we see a development in this experimentation to enlivening effect.

Working with a meld of grubby samples, chunky percussion and the frequent vocal accompaniment of Utrecht based Loes Jongerling, Rarely Pure Never Simple is a journey through Frits’ influences forged into a cohesive pack of grooves and interludes tinged with a certain charming nostalgia.

Following releases from label heads Dusky and Christian Piers, 17 Steps returns with an awaited label debut from Velvit (Darren White) that offers both forward-thinking club sounds and leftfield sonics. 

Co-opting the dark, technical style that Darren has long practised as drum & bass legend dBridge, lead track 'Be So Cruel' adds a fresh perspective on house and techno forms that instantly stood out from the pack. 

Blending dark grooves and sinister mechanics with Darren's own soulful vocals, 'Be So Cruel' has been heavily anticipated ever since it featured in Dusky's Resident Advisor mix last year.

Featuring the vocals of his brother Steve Spacek, 'No Excuses' is a stripped soul roller with dense rhythms and mad jazz moments that works as both meditative headphone trip and experimental dancefloor moment. 

Completing a diverse triple header, 'South Of Your Soul' takes things down a futuristic electro vibe with dark sci-fi cinematics battling it out with body-popping beats and Darren's distinctive cyborg soul vocals.

Back behind the drums and swinging harder than ever, with his new titanium hip crowdfunded by the immense generosity of friends and fans, brazilian drumming legend and one third of Azymuth Ivan ‘Mamão’ Conti releases a brand new solo album next year with Far Out Recordings. It’s his first solo release in over twenty years and the first to come out on vinyl since his 1984 Milestone classic The Human Factor. As people of earth may not quite be ready for the explosive cosmic samba of Mamão’s new album just yet, we’re easing into it with a double header of heavily percussive, future-centric, jazz-minded, yet club-ready remixes. 

Following on from the IG Culture meets 22a remix EP released earlier this year, the second remix 12” ahead of Mamão’’s album release, hosts three producers united not only by a foundational appreciation for the work of Ivan Conti and Azymuth, but also in the belief that there’s much more to dance music than straight four to the floor. These are two of Germany’s most consistently on-fire producers: Money Sex Records buddies Max Graef and Glenn Astro, along with the ascendant Mancunian producer/percussionist Contours. With Mamão’s famously jovial character shining through each remix, the EP spans hip-hop, deep house, jazz-funk and afro-brasilian rhythms, giving the listener a taste of what’s to come from Mamão’s much anticipated new album in 2018.

Dean Zepherin is truly a producer who has managed to find his lane and appeal. born and raised in London, a suitably eclectic city for a man of his musical persuasion he is renowned for his consistently genre-pushing productions.  In other words, a perfect match for Local Talk, a label not afraid to go beyond the classic 4/4 sound and explore different styles within house music.
