@art-alfie, the eminent Swedish mastermind of unconditionally funky house blesses us with the privilege of two of his somewhat “out-there” house tracks. Two functional tools with maximum wonky-ness that will completely obliterate dance floors. The EP is released by Bigges District — a label run by Stockholm producers Ari Bald, Gudding and CJ Scott. Art Alfie’s enrollment on the label’s digital imprint DIGGES is a follow up on the series “Klubbdubbar”.

The EP takes off with ”Diana” — a house gadget made in collaboration with Måns Glaeser. “Diana”s ringing and chronometric synthesizer sounds and latin infused bass line stipulates a hefty and arid groove filled with color. On the flip “Libido Rising” enters. The tracks crooked and precarious character tosses the listener into a chaotic and tumultuous disposition. A brusque and wandering bassline accompanied by sprightly and agile jazz infused percussion culminates into this vigorous number.

Tom Bruce has long kept his nose to the club grindstone. A Sydney stalwart, T.B has worked tirelessly in his efforts to further the harbour city’s dance landscape. From steering his own label ship Start Local Records, to releasing records via clipp.art and Paradiso plus delivering mixes for online radio shows such for Balamii and Area 3000, it’s fair to say Tom’s been putting in work! 

Until recently, Tom had called Nottingham UK home. Over two years, he soaked up all there was to learn about how those in the Northern hemisphere navigate the rave. Now, back on home soil, the dude is spilling over with creativity and vigour. Welcome to ‘Cloudy Days Often Have The Best Sunsets’.

This optimistically titled EP certainly lives up to its name, gliding along like a puck on ice. Straight out of the gate is ‘Faux Personality’, a jolly bongo number with acidic licks and 80’s synth play. If you’re looking to break the world record for the longest light jogging distance, throw this on repeat. In addition, Dutchman and label friend HATT.D lathers on more acid with a tidy remix.

PREMIERE: Tom Bruce - Faux Personality (HATT.D Remix) [Gallery Recordings]

Coming as a milestone for STRCTR, the label's tenth transmission finds fellow Paris-based vibists @Cosmonection and @Tour-Maubourg joining forces on an infectiously feel-good four-track joint release. 

For extended use for summer and beyond, “STRCTR010” packs exactly the right amount of chilled-out loungey bliss and delectably carefree floor dynamics to freshen up the hot dancing bodies out there.

Served cool, “Cocktail” breaks the EP into the rousing melody of processed xylophones and prismatic synths from above, laced together by a Chicago-informed jacking swing that’s sure to both uplift crowds and keep the dancers wading knee-deep in their own sweat from start to finish. 

A2 “Rosso” goes a more romantic route with its fluttering piano chords and feeling stabs counterbalancing a bass-heavy groove bound to make the dance floor quiver in excitement. Primed for sun-streaked after operations and lax between-friends sessions.

Flip it over and here comes the mystique-imbued “Mist” - a straight out oneiric jam bridging the gap between tribal ambientism and acid-infused abstraction. Much like stepping into a dense forest of sound where batucada drums, free-reeling pads and weird birdsongs collide in a symbiotic ballet of sorts. 

“Igualada” wraps the package on a further carnivalesque note, astutely blending in shuffling samba rhythms with heavily delayed and echo'd synth talk to shape a truly unique hybrid halfway poolside party fun and Indian summer escapism.

This bumpa of a mix was compiled of vinyl dug up in Seattle and Bay Area record shops and was spun at Zach B's home studio in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. From the first kick drum, this mix delivers a rhythmic ride of stompin' house grooves that doesn't let up until the final fade out.

AVA.LP005 Damiano von Erckert "Hyper Snippet"

Veteran Chicago House pioneer Boo Williams delivers stand out genre melding EP on Italian record label, NICEPEOPLE. The three track EP meanders through elements of house and techno with real depth. This is the “LOL” EP, landing January 2021 on vinyl, and you can happily say this one fully lives up to its expectations. 

The title track “LOL” chugs along with pure energy of sounds of the past, twisting beeps and bleeps whirring throughout. The shuffling drums make this one, brushing by as they continue to drive the opener. The clue is in the title here as Williams uses trippy samples of laughter which flash in and out throughout the duration. 

Next on the agenda is “Backwards Run”, a blissful deep and emotive encounter with Boo doing what he does best. Trickling synths and pads meander around a clean cut house arrangement, voices circle around the belly of the track making this another hypnotic outing. 

Elastic bass creates a sense of urgency in “Bangin Out”, the last of the EP which takes up the whole of the B-side. A real abrupt and direct track, the kind that leaves the crowd in a trance when utilised in the right moment, creating suspense in the club room before elevating to the next track. A tinge of acid and intelligent key arrangement enforcing more masterpiece material. 

This is Boo Williams at his finest once more, landing on a label that is not afraid to push a variety of sounds as long as the consistent quality is there. A real nod to sounds of the past, no egos in sight, just plain and simple effective dance floor sounds from one of the heroes of this vibe.
