Everyone’s favourite Welsh producer, Harrison BDP, channels deep, chugging house, sun-kissed 2-step and introspective rollers on the Perspective EP on SITU Records.
‘Every Cloud’ is as buoyant as the title would suggest; a cut of inward-looking garage-breakbeat perfectly suited for gazing out to sea; although the ocean is filled with tears, and where there should be one blazing ball of fire there are two.
‘Sometimes It’s Like That’ is an ode to the producers care-free spirit; a bouncing cut of electronica that symbolises a happy accident - like mistaking a zoot for a cigarette - it’s malfunctioning bleeps and vibrations slowly sinking the listener into a kaleidoscope of
colours, tones and textures, before ‘Perspective’ brings us back down to earth with its jacking aesthetic and sample-speech, reminiscent of the Chicago greats but with a hefty dose of the producers own personality.
‘Floating or Sinking’ rounds things up with wobbly, chugging textures that do exactly what it says on the tin. Am I floating, am I sinking? It doesn’t really matter; we could be floating through not-so-distant galaxies or sinking into a ground of a thousand hugs - either way, it’s
a blissed out trip worth going on.

Let’s hear the German duo explain this record themselves:

This is an EP with four very different tracks and we really mean all of them. None here feels like everybody's darling but they all do make us feel something, and that is what we strive for, always. The tracks have all been made by just the two of us completely being in the zone, except for House In The Hills, that started as a wonderful jam at our friend Tx‘s place in late 2019, together with him and Jamie Lloyd. We basically hung out for two days straight with nothing but the best people, great food and all the music - happy days as one might guess.

The Toy Tonics crew has been in touch ever since we remixed a song for Kapote, and the idea of doing an EP together had and been tossed around for a while already. We've been digging their musical approach all along and we're happy to get the chance to contribute a small piece to their story. When the pandemic hit, we were fortunate to have our friend Iron Curtis letting us move into his studio, as we had just lost our beloved place in Hamburg - so guess what we did for the most part of 2020? Exactly. We have always been spending most of our time together cooking beats, but probably never as much as over the last year. So has it been 10.000 hours by now? We don’t know but we’re certainly working on it.

B2 Recordings welcomes Greek Techno pioneer Novatek onto its roster this February with the ‘Innerzone’ EP.

Savvas Georgiadis is a music producer from Thessaloniki, Greece and one of the pioneers of the techno scene in his country. His activities in electronic music started in 1992 and since then, Savvas, using various pseudonyms/projects, such as Dataman, Fujiyama, The Repeater, Neural Network, Interphaze and of course Novatek which he returns to here, has released music ranging from deep minimal techno to percussive tools, electro, and industrial/EBM. Here his latest offerings come via the burgeoning B2 Recordings, headed up by fellow Greek artist and DJ, Bengoa.

Up first on the package is ‘Beats Me’, fuelled by gritty dub stabs, dynamic 909 drums, a funk-infused bass lick and sporadic vocal chants before title-cut ‘Innerzone’ leads things down a more 90’s-tinged IDM path via off- kilter drums, sweeping atmospherics and wandering electronic funk melodies.

Opening the flip side is ‘Outta Here’, which returns to more dubbed out territories, fusing bubbling dub echoes with heavily swung organic drums, bright string lines and rumbling subs. ‘White Crash’ then rounds out the release on a deep house tip, bringing airy pad swells and shimmering piano keys into the limelight alongside resonant synth sequence and bumpy drums.

The drums rattled in the chamber. Their harsh brutality banged loudly against the walls as the movement of those before the ramp fastened. The space was dark and dimly lit yet a sense of summer like euphoria reverberated in a great wave above their heads. It was the sound of the 909, that beautiful machine in all its thunderous glory. 

Next up on Cosmic Rhythm is a reimagined version of a classic 1991 track in the form of KGB's "Detroit 909". A fresh take on a somewhat under appreciated classic.
