A cover from the mid-80s, I've wanted to do this song for so long, it's not even funny! I have the original 45 still. With sequencing by Nelson Guimaraes, the original male vocal with guitar solos, is now transformed into my special signature arrangement with my tenor sax supplying the riffs and middle 8 solo, and lead vocal plus 6 harmony backing vocals by  me :-) too! So much fun, I'll update this when the track comes out and I have a pre-save and buy link to share!

Red Or White Rumba

My version of the Sam Cooke classic. I believe in it, the words, the universal need and gravity of the meaning, I hope with my voice and my saxophone expressing the song, that you feel how much this means to me. I have wanted to try for many years, afraid of not being able to do this immortal song of hope well-enough to present to the world. I'm coming closer to my own Spirituality, in accepting what I cannot change, and letting God do the heavy lifting in my career and my life. I performed this at a Women's Spiritual retreat and it was the most amazing experience I've had so far. I want more of it. I humbly submit this effort to you. I hope you like it. <3 Ava

A Change Is Gonna Come

I heard this song, and it moved me so much, it took me a while to do it without completely cracking. I did this because, well, I am a Motherless Child. The music really came out well, I made it with my KeyRig and the great instruments I have sampled, these are my favorite orchestral patches used in my arrangement. Yes, I am not just a singer. I make the music as often as I can because I can afford my own time :-)
So it made sense to me to group with it, my song written for my Mom, Annette and also having just lost one of my greatest influences, Etta James also to cancer just this week, I recorded a new version of "At Last" I haven't figured out artwork yet. What is “Neo-Exotica?” A new, retro-inspired genre of music by Ava Lemert.

How does it sound? Think of the romance of forbidden beaches, tiki,gods guarding sacred temples in misty jungles teeming with wild things. Hear the rhythm of drenching salty surf, warm tropical sun and you sipping a fancy cocktail with a little umbrella sticking out enjoying it all! It's lush —replete with field recordings of Kookaburra birds, lions and stirrings of the Yucatan rainforest. Ava uses sounds of instruments you may not know even exist, such as African traditional instruments like the urdu, ngoni, or the lute-like Aud from Armenia, there's the Chinese dizi flute and the other-worldly sounding Erhu, ringing sitar-like Jaipur and even drums made with Cling-Wrap! Blended in with the very exotic are more familiar rhythms such as funky dancehall and Reggae, Bossa Nova and a fiery Tango that features Ava's smoldering spicy saxophones in a dance of passion in "Gypsy Tango."
