Initially released in 1992, Juan Atkins joined forces with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann, for the second iteration of latter duo’s 3 Men in Berlin project, producing a monumental collaboration between Berlin and Detroit that profoundly affected the path forward for techno music. 

The impact this album holds is evident in how it elevates beyond a singular or separable representation of its origins. Instead, it resonates through a collaborative nature that reflects its inherent melting pot. Where hints of each member’s sound - Atkins’ mangled and bouncing funk, von Oswald’s purist echoes and foundation rumblings, and Fehlmann’s ambient meshes - may be heard coalescing in a slipstream, and at other times tussling in fervent unfoldings. It may be almost 30 years old, but it remains deeply innovative at its core - folding and warping, unrelenting from its vision. 

Densely packed is a propulsive drive of discordant bubbling and jazz-induced textures. Featuring much-beloved tracks such as Jazz Is The Teacher and Die Kosmischen Kuriere, Atkins, von Oswald and Fehlmann forming an emission bound together as a mould of metropolis navigation. Be it amid destructed realities harbouring the bleakest of nights, or long-lensed sci-fi visions, joining dots between the position of the feet and the head. The flanging pads and chirruping percussion of Jazz Is The Teacher lead in a moment in dance music that is as legendary as iconic, shifting into terrains far-out, receiving astral missives then rendering them to groove. Laid back, soulful and affective, it equals ultra-funky, interstellar techno that, once heard, leaves us never quite the same.

To mark the occasion of 300,000 subscribers on the Houseum YouTube channel, what could be a better way to celebrate than kicking off a new sub-label with the talented Tom Jarmey? The young Englishman, aka Ocean Stirs and one half of Mother Of Pearls continues to reveal his talent through various releases on Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D Musik, Shadow City Records and his beautiful debut album on Lobster Theremin.

Tom Jarmey resumes this ascent with his latest EP - 'Birds of Opul' - Consisting of four tracks spanning emotive ambient, psychedelic downtempo, breakbeat and techno.

The EP opener ‘Steelo’ introduces us to a lush, textured array of fluttering synths and pads. ‘Far East’ builds on this theme, incorporating otherworldly melodies with driving drum work and samples. The B side opens with ‘Blue’, a mellow dive into pulsating chords and stripped back percussion. Closing the EP is ‘Flying Into Haze’, a fitting journey through massive ambient synths and field recordings, ending in a final, angelic crescendo.

The table was lined with all manner of sweet treats and delicious desserts; it was a banquet fit for a king and queen. Just looking at the infinite options available was enough to make you feel full; cream cakes were perched alongside iced biscuits, macaroons and mountains of jelly, stretching as far as the eye could see. This was something as a child they could only dream of - could death by sugar be a thing?

For their first release of 2022, and their sixth to date, Taiwan's JIN 禁 Records call on the talents of South Korean artist Yetsuby, who makes up one half of ambient duo Salamanda. Her ability to create soundscapes driven by mood and emotion is still present on this EP, but this time she explores the realms of bass, DnB and IDM across four fresh cuts. On the flip, master of the remix New Zealand's Eden Burns puts his signature progressive trance spin on 'Jelly', twisting it into a psychedelic slow burner to keep those energy levels up.

London producer-duo, Wayward, are back after blowing us away with their marvelous "Good Afternoon Mr Magpie" EP. Wayward have a knack for bridging the gap between the dancefloor and the more soulful side of electronic music, with support across the radio airwaves from the likes of Giles Peterson on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, KCRW, Beats In Space and Rinse FM. 

Wayward's most recent release, the "Green Lanes" EP is another milestone for the rising duo. The EP opener “Planets” (co-written with London producer Books) is a dance floor ready tune with a hypnotic bassline and the perfect amount of cowbell. “Maxi Love” brings the disco heat with an edit of a timeless classic, reinterpreted for late night escapades. On the B side, “Time and Again” is a breezy house banger and the closing track “Silver” is reminiscent of Wayward’s signature sound, blending samples in seamlessly with warm percussive elements.

PREMIERE Wayward - Silver [Beats Of No Nation]

Now one of dance music’s most respected DJs, Avalon Emerson first made a name for herself in the storied warehouse scene of her birthplace, San Francisco, before relocating to Berlin in 2013. Over a decade of performances at the famed Berghain led to appearances at numerous festivals around the world which all cemented Emerson, and her evocative, genre- and decade-spanning sets, as perennially in demand. 

In 2020, she released her first full-length collection: a contribution to the longrunning DJ-Kicks series (which Resident Advisor described as “The sound of a well-honed DJ at the top of her game.”), nestled alongside a steady stream of remix releases for the likes of Four Tet, Slowdive, Robyn and more.

Next up was 2023’s Avalon Emerson & The Charm, an instant classic which saw Emerson exploring her singing voice and more traditional songwriting outside of the boundaries of her dance music work.  Created after a move to New York, the resulting & The Charm album was released to critical acclaim, landing on numerous critics’ best-of-the-year lists.

The stage is now set, then, for her to carve out a wholly unique path, and with the help of new label home and indie giant, Dead Oceans, Emerson is poised to connect her various musical endeavors to create an untouchably rich output of material. First up is Perpetual Emotion Machine, consisting of songs created for her DJ sets, delivered via a living, evolving project and announced ahead of her worldwide tour.
