There’s something distinctly poetic to the sprawling sound collages of Ahmet Atakan, which he arranges around the pounding rhythm of his kickdrum from field recordings and anecdotal samples, piano chords and string entries, the singing of humans and the chanting of machines. He conjures up abstract states of emotion and morphs them playfully into specific thoughts, gracefully mixing up soulful and intelligent vibes. All of this makes his music a perfect match for a good, loud sound system, and also for the catalogue of Acker Special. The six tracks of the Words EP add up to something reminiscent of a mini album – and rumours have it that an extensive remix project is already brewing...

Born in the dark streets of Cairo, grown to the unforgettable forests of Santa Esmeralda, spending its teen years in Bombay and Tangier markets, mature into the deep spacey Jungle of Ghana we proudly present you a new label from the land of the pyramids: SHANGO RECORDS invites you to an unheard world music psychedelic trip: like through a colorful kaleidoscope we will melt down Indian and Pakistani Vibes, Arab-Tek and Oriental groovy vibes, Afro-Beat rhythms n' pieces, Cumbia Tropicana flavors and cosmic Ghetto-Latin vibes into forbidden sounds of frenzied electronic dancefloor rituals. Outside traditional paths these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to Dionysian highs and places never been before.

The Huli are believed to have laid down roots in Papua New Guinea as far back as 45,000 years ago. Most of the Huli people are from the town of Tari, and many still live according to the traditional ways. “The Huli men are famous for their unique custom of creating and wearing impressive wigs decorated with feathers. They also wear bright facial paint in red, yellow and white — colors originally chosen to strike fear into their enemy in times of conflict. Nowadays, they usually wear them to sing and dance.”. The so-called Wigmen make their wigs out of their own hair and weave them with feathers from the island’s 700 bird species. Each feather carries its own symbolic meaning (such as strength and courage). “The forest in which we live is essential to us. It provides for all our needs, it is sacred, and I would do anything in my power to protect it,” writes Mundiya Kepanga, a 53-year-old Huli Wigman, “I hope that by helping people to better understand my culture, they will also respect our environment.”                                                                                                                    This is the new Shango Records compilation entitled “A Wigmen Town Called Tari”. Ivan featured on our AVI009 release when he made a beautiful remix of Matiso's Solitude and we have been enjoying this promising newcomer's releases ever since, notably on ICONYC Noir and Revolt Music.

The Intuition EP features two high-energy and captivating tracks, written and inspired by the uncertainty and isolation of the early days of quarantine. Although written during a gloomy time, the title track, Intuition, seeks to capture patience and hope for the good things that are yet to happen in life. The next track, Disco, was written with the club and dance floor in mind, reminiscent of the past experiences and hopeful of what the future holds.
