Duro is honored to present the birth of the “Baba” brotherhood. During the last pandemic year, Rina traveled from Tel Aviv to Portugal, where he met Switchdance. After some trips around the beautiful city of Lisbon, plates and plates of hummus and samosa, a visit to pick up raspberries at a field that used to be a medicinal cannabis farm and lots of hours in Switchdance's studio, 'Baba Music Vol. 1' was alive.

The journey initiates with "Reak" or "empty" in Hebrew; the cut refers to a state of consciousness where there is nothing in the brain. Playful percussion, acid basslines mixed with digitally distorted synthesizers create the sensation of breaking out reality, an experience blended with algorithms, binary codes and atomized sounds where it is hard to distinguish the realness. A roar to all the Babas around the world to gather on the dance floor.

Next comes the Hebrew version of "Give Way",a cut that narrates the moment when you are in a high state of mind and try to describe the process to get back to reality. On this first version Rina takes control of the vocals. It’s followed by the Portuguese version where the duo worked with vocalist Abrão. An alternative version with deep and resonant bass, a synthesized voice, electric and acid melodies, and distant pads run through the space.

To consummate the brotherhood with an embellishment, master Jonathan Kusama came up with two versions of "Give Way". The first one is an energetic cut with a flickering and harsh bass, mixed with mind-bending and unhinged synthesizers. For the second version Kusama brings up a futuristic and dystopian dub masterpiece, with distorted bass lines, shady vocals and liquid percussion.

Three EPs on I’m a Cliché from 2012 and a bunch of EPs, tracks, remixes and edits on international imprints such as Correspondant, Relish, Days of Being Wild, Throne of Blood, Kill the DJ and more, made Red Axes gain respect throughout all the cold-ravers community.

“Kicks Out of You EP” is their fourth EP with the Paris-based boutique I’m a Cliché. It is their last DJ-friendly record (both vinyl and digital) before the awaited release of their first LP entitled “Ballad of the Ice”. Three original tracks are included. They feature: a tune in Spanish in “Candela Viva”; some spoken word in “Kicks out of You” (courtesy of their Brazilian punk friend Abrão, the same who featured in their hit “Caminho de Dreyfus”); and finally some unexpected samba beats in beautiful “Too Late to Samba”.

The reason why these two young guys born and raised in Israel should be that attracted to Latin America is like the reason why they should be so interested in German and French coldwave and other underground genres from the seventies and eighties: it shall remain a mystery. Red Axes are space and time travellers. However, what they send us from their trips is far from the typical postcard or the beach selfie. On the dancefloor, their sound plays with our craving for darkness, our sense of fun and our blue feelings; it frustrates and obsesses us. And thanks to their incredible technique, their passion for the past and the remote translates into something that belongs to right here and right now.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.

Shining crown jewels in Tel Aviv's underground scene, Red Axes' artistic endeavours have slowly but surely been revitalising Israeli music culture. The jewel in the crown of Israel’s underground music scene, Red Axes have produced a steady stream of hits on labels like Permanent Vacation, I’m A Cliché, Crosstown Rebels, and on our all-inclusive culti label where they dropped what became, somewhat surprisingly, their biggest hit to date with Waiting For a Surprise. The dark, stripped down disco bomb had one of the most memorable hooks of the year in singer Abrão’s staccato chorus, a late night voodoo incantation that was always begging to be remixed. 

We asked fellow Tel Avivian Moscoman to direct his hot hands to the guitar, mellowing things slightly, stretching out the hooks and adding layers of ambulant percussion to his signature middle eastern flair. The man you love to hate to love breaks his bread and shares it with us all.

Fabio Vanore returns to his home of Incroyable Music with the captivating ‘Voodoo Ray’ EP.

The title track kicks off proceedings - a deep, dark and moody production that is carried by trippy vocals, whirring synth patterns and a marching drum groove. ‘Leaving the Comfort Zone' then dims the lights further with lush percussion elements and more developing melodic flurries that dance around you throughout its entirety.
The B side welcomes L.A based producer Cooper Saver who remixes ‘Voodoo Ray’ capitalising on the vocals and repetitive bass line in fine form, redefining the story in his own unique way. Benjamin Fröhlich closes the collection with a more uptempo and peak time version of ‘Voodoo Ray’ with rolling drums and mind bending synth elements.

Fabio Vanore drops his 'Voodoo Ray' EP on Incroyable Music shortly; Incroyable that is a label, a musical collective, but mainly a family of like-minded musicians that operate from and mostly within and around the Cologne area. For now! Fabio is ready to spread his musical approach amongst the electronic music scene and it doesn't need much voodoo magic to figure out that 'Voodoo Ray' feat. Abrão has the potential to spiritually soak the audience into mindsets that one has not experienced before. The EP's title track 'Voodoo Ray' comes with a remix from Permanent Vacation label-honcho Benjamin Fröhlich, who sprinkles his magic on the track to create a mental ride through voodoo practices. Abrão's vocal remains in the background and lets the soundscapes fully unfold its spiritual character in the style of a voodoo priest continuing his ritual to reach the back of the mind and start the cleansing process. Fröhlich executes a musical portrayal of a voodoo ceremony evoking pictures as strong as his music lets his audience dive into the practices, creating lose-yourself-to-dance moments before coming back to normal, whatever this might mean.

The Calypso cult keeps spreading around the world and this time they welcome: Vini Pistori and Red Axes frequent guest Abrão. The two Brasilians join forces to deliver an epic EP called “Louco & Sobrevivendo”.

“Luoco Chama” slowly starts with a simple beat until Abrao's vocals kick in to get you in the mood while a mental arp keeps the track driving foward. “Sobrevivendo o Desacordo” brings a strong modulating bass and again the epic Abrao vocals intervine for a dreamy interlude and a complete release of energy. The tracks are simple to leave space for the voice but powerfull enough to have a life on it's own.

Label bosses come to rework each of the tracks. Iñigo takes “Sobrevivendo o Desacordo” and transforms it into a percussion frenzy with robotic vocals. While Thomass takes “Luoco Chama” and makes it an instant classic with a "White Horse style" bassline and acid touches that add new psychedelia to the track.
