Ask Berlin's network of revered deep diggers who their favourite "DJ's DJ" is, and there's a strong chance you'll hear one name immediately pop up: KRN.

Phil Kearney, AKA KRN, is one of those rare types who has built a reputation away from the limelight. Formerly a resident at The Ghost's Hoppetosse party as well as a Get Perlonized devotee (plus, full disclosure, reviewing events and working at RA in the mid-2010s), he's well-versed in both wiggle and waft. The hubbub around KRN can be put down to the fastidiousness of his approach: he unearths rare gems from the roots of the underground, before mixing it up with a deft hand.

Kearney's RA Podcast, sweetly subtitled "Dadhouse," is an ode to his partner and newborn, as well as a window into his personal palette. He starts in serene IDM territory, before shifting into playful grooves and tactile house oddities. Good lucking ID'ing many of the tunes—we asked for a tracklist but, deep down, already knew the answer. We know this, too: one listen and you'll be hooked.

2001 war bekanntermaßen ein gutes Jahr für die deutsche Rap-Szene. Die Debütalben von u.a. Samy Deluxe („Samy Deluxe“), Azad („Leben“) und M.O.R. („NLP“) sind erschienen. Dazu überragte der intensiv rappende Curse alle mit seinem zweiten Album „Von innen nach außen“ und Jan Delay war schon wieder ein Schritt weiter als der Rest von Deutschrap mit seinem legendären Reggae-Album „Searching for the Jan Soul Rebels“.

In dieser Zeit machten die MCs Ali Rasul und Gianni Dolo zusammen mit Produzent Iman und DJ Edward Sizzerhand etwas Unerwartetes: ein Album aus Deutschland, aber auf Englisch. Das Album „Walk Of Life“ erschien am 02.07.2001 über Showdown Records. Und entgegen der Vorlieben des Publikums wurde die Platte im Handumdrehen ein Klassiker der deutschen HipHop-Szene. Der Einfluss, den das Album, und im Speziellen auch der charismatische Frontmann Ali Rasul († 14.05.2010), auf die Szene hatte, wurde von vielen Medien weithin dokumentiert.

Zum 15-jährigen Jubiläum des Albums entschieden Showdown Records sowie die verbliebenen Bandmitglieder und Alis Familie die Platte neu zu veröffentlichen - und zwar am 29.07.2016. Zum ersten Mal überhaupt wird sie damit in allen digitalen Kanälen verfügbar gemacht. Das Album wird erstmals auch in einer Vinyl-Version mit allen 18 Songs erscheinen (auf der ursprünglichen Version fehlten zwei Songs) sowie im limitierten 4-LP-Bundle mit Vocal-Version und Instrumentals plus eine Kassette mit unveröffentlichten Beats von Square One-Produzent Iman.

Mit Gästen wie u. a. AG von DITC und Party Arty von Ghetto Dwellas erhielt „Walk Of Life“ zusätzlich internationales Flair. Auch den Soundstempel, den Mastering-Ikone Tony Dawsey (u. a. Gangstarr, Nas, EPMD, Jay-Z) aus dem Masterdisk Studio in N.Y. den Songs verpasste, rundete das stimmige Gesamtbild dieses mit Herzblut und Detailverliebheit entstandenen Albums ab. Für die Neuveröffentlichung hat Sascha „Busy“ Bühren von TrueBusyness Mastering mit viel Feingefühl die Platte an die heutigen digitalen Formate angepasst.
