Soul Edifice – Life Artefacts EP

Vernacular Records is glad to announce the second opus of its series “Vernacular Fields” which aims to associate singular musical projects with the work of Franco-Armenian photographer Sarkis Torossian. 

This second release, called Life Artefacts, is the first solo EP by Vernacular head Soul Edifice (FR). It’s a 4 tracks EP which oscillates between all his inspirations, recalling the different energies of his last releases and Dj sets. From Four to the floor Club Tracks to High Energy Jungle through Epic Breakbeats, this first solo EP is an hyper effective dance EP, however a concentrate of subtle production and sound design. 
 
We're proud to renew our collaboration with Sarkis Torossian on this second EP's artwork. His work combines multiples art techniques, from taking and developing analogue photos of landscapes, to a whole transformation process on the image including digital treatment, precise ink-mixing resulting in stunning, handmade monochromic prints. 
 
As for the first opus, it's a limited series of 50 physical objects including: 
a unique visual made, print & numbered by hand by Sarkis Torossian 
a USB stick including Soul Edifice - Life Artefacts EP and a digital file of the artwork 
 
All inserted in a 10” vinyl cover. The EP will also be available in digital format on our Bandcamp.

Vernacular Records est heureux d’annoncer la sortie du second opus de la série « Vernacular Fields », dont le but est d'associer des projets musicaux singuliers au travail du photographe franco-arménien Sarkis Torossian.

Intitulée ''Life artefacts'', il s'agit du premier EP en solo de Soul Edifice (FR), fondateur de Vernacular Records. Au travers 4 morceaux oscillants entre Techno ''four to the floor'', Jungle, Breakbeats et, Soul Edifice réalise la synthèse de ses nombreuses influences en livrant un projet dans lequel la finesse de la production et le sound-design se mettent au service de la danse et du club. 
 
Nous sommes fiers de renouveler notre collaboration avec Sarkis Torossian en lui confiant l'artwork de ce second EP. Son travail est le résultat d'une combinaison de techniques artistiques, allant de la photographie analogique de paysages a la retouche digitale, un travail sur les mélanges d'encres et conclu par de superbes impressions monochromes, réalisées a la main. 
 
Comme le premier opus, il s'agira d'une série limitée de50 objets physiques incluant : 
Un print du visuel réalisé a la main par Sarkis Torossian
Une clé USB contenant les 4 tracks de l'EP et une version digitale du visuel 
 
Le tout expédié dans une pochette de vinyle craft 10''. Le projet sera aussi disponible en format digital.

On the second EP for his Dynamics Of Acid label, acid aficionado MOY — fresh from releases on Nocta Numerica and Batrachian —  teams up with the mysterious Zodiac Childs for a feast of shredded breaks, electro melodies and moody atmospheres.

On the A-side, MOY’s ‘Ratufa’ mixes euphoric pianos, hardcore drums and glowering bass with a side order of 303, while Zodiac Childs ups the intensity with a remix that adds ascending arpeggios and gigantic rave stabs to light up the dance.

On the B-side, Zodiac Childs offers up the smouldering break chops and cavernous bass bleeps of ‘Overstep’, before flipping into acid madness halfway through. Finally, MOY’s version threads serpentine sulphuric tones through an intricate melodic arrangement and a dusty hip-hop drum loop. 

It all adds up to a jaw-dropping release from two of the hottest names in the electronic underground.

“The word ‘Isolation’ undoubtedly has a new weight to it. For any person, within communities, it has the ability to starve us of something essential OR positively recalibrate an individual whose introspection can lead to creation. The title & concept of this release is simply an acknowledgement of a creative process in which going inwards can lead to the discovery of something unique.

We as people move alongside technological advancements & this has the power to ‘connect & isolate’. Our personal relationships with one another also take on new forms as our tools for communication change. This inspires creative action. The human response to modern devices can result in surreal and unfamiliar expressions. In terms of music, our instant access to information from the past & engrained intuitions lead us to revisit atavistic rhythms of the past & reinterpret them with new sensibilities. We create music from the ‘Now’ that traverses the ‘Past’ with sights set on the future!

Bonds created from this expression can withstand and even strengthen even when inter-continental physical distance is imposed - forcing us to look inward to investigate the true depth of relationships forged out of creative expression. Rhythm has been used for millennia to locate the deepest parts of the soul & to re/connect spirits - this is true also in the modern age. Certain feelings cannot be expressed via digital text-communications nor with words alone; Music is the answer. Connection through disconnection.
