Future VI: The A Priori

As You Asked is not a piece about certainty, but about trust — the kind that is born when two souls meet through creation. As if the piano itself understood the question and, without hesitation, simply replied: as you asked.
It was born from an exchange between Francesco Adornetto and Jessica Brown Bains, from a simple phrase that holds an entire intention: to offer something genuine, without hesitation. Each note is a wordless reply, a musical gesture that doesn’t aim to explain, but simply to be — like lifelong friends — just as requested, just as felt.
Within the flow of the composition, there is a delicate balance between listening and revealing. The higher phrases — quick and fleeting — feel like whispered thoughts, while the deep and steady foundation tells of a profound intimacy, one that reveals itself only to those who know how to ask sincerely.

As You Asked

I wanted to create for this piece a romantic atmosphere, where the interpretation translates varied emotions and sound contrasts. The musical notes are above all vibrations that resonate within us. The very first measurements of the concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninov inspired me for the beginning of "Résonance", this composer remains for me one of the greatest masters of musical expression. J'ai voulu créer pour ce morceau une ambiance romantique, où l'interprétation traduit des émotions variées et des contrastes sonores. Les notes de musique sont avant tout des vibrations qui résonnent en nous. Les toutes premières mesures du concerto no. 2 de Rachmaninov m'ont inspiré pour le début de "Résonances", ce compositeur reste pour moi l'un des plus grands maîtres de l'expression musicale. Résonance

On April 15, the last remaining hospital in Gaza was destroyed. To date, 50,000 civilians have died, of which 15,000 are children and another 34,000 children have been injured. (source: Unicef).
Due to the almost total displacement of the population in refugee camps where food and water are scarce, the lack of hygiene, of medical facilities, it is predicted, with a very conservative estimate, that in the end the civilian deaths related to the conflict will be four times as many (source: Lancet).

But I've Got the Wings

We have all heard about the four riders of the apocalypse. Lately a fifth horseman has appeared, in a certain country to the far east of Europe, intent upon outdoing all the others. 

THE FIFTH HORSEMAN DESPERATELY TRYING TO CATCH UP

Kintsugi is an art form that embodies the philosophy of wabi-sabi which values the beauty of imperfection and transience. Kintsugi also serves as a metaphor for embracing our flaws and imperfections in life seeing them as a source of strength and beauty and finding resilience in the face of adversity. 

Kintsugi

Over the weekend, a tiny creature showed up at our home, in need of a little help.  After a day of some care, it scurried away to continue on with life, no worse for the wear.  The experience brought to mind a hymn I used to sing as a child, “All Things Bright & Beautiful." The refrain is probably the most well-known part of the hymn:

“All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.”

The hymn speaks of the wonder of creation as well as the inherent value of life and served as the inspiration for this piano improvisation. The words (but not the original melody) from the refrain are integrated into the composition beginning at the section from :58 – 1:17 and repeating several times thereafter.
