after releasing endless (I&II) i said i wasn't going to make anymore club tracks for a while, but...
last year i took my foot off the gas with DJing, which enabled me to (amongst other things...) go and enjoy watching my friends and peers at clubs and festivals.
those joyful experiences made me just want to write something direct and uplifting for those moments - and out came Rosebud.

Drawing from the leftfield avant-pop of Arthur Russell and Talking Heads, progressive disco of Nile Rodgers and contemporary ambient electronica, Retiree channel these influences through their own pervasive aura of rum-drunk antipodean sunshine. The result is music that is in equal parts lush, thoughtful melody and meditative tropical rhythm. 

The EP sees joint international release between Rhythm Section International and Plastic World - purveyors of southern hemisphere groove-driven underground pop (GL, Savoir).

Next up on Hotflush is the debut EP by Glaskin, aka brothers Jonathan and Ferdinand Bockelmann. Hailing from Munich, their origins can be traced to the same fertile scene that gave rise to Skee Mask, the Zenker Brothers and recent Hotflush acquisition, PYUR. They first appeared with a pivotal track on Scuba’s acclaimed Fabric 90 mix last year, and the Hotflush label boss revives his Abucs alias to chime in here with a powerful 135 bpm, broken-beat remix that recalls his Triangulation-era output.

The EP builds a fierce line of tension across 4 tracks, exploring new takes on percussive techno with a dub palette. ‘Groundwork’ heads straight to the main room whilst ‘Structure’ flaunts a dizzying groove. 

Vast concrete spaces are navigated by sparse, hard-hitting drums on title track ‘Debris Disk’. For the remix, Scuba delves deeper into the dub aesthetic, restructuring the sounds to create his own narrative.

Sour Edits, is a label that without doubt has brought so much foot tapping, head nodding happiness into this world. Every floor driven release has managed to crack a wry smile in everyone over at Four Heads HQ when we routinely unearth these releases; even the accounting department on the most solemn of Mondays when the lacklustre Q4 numbers are rolling in.

The issue is, is that circa 70% (predictions based on real-time data collected by our GDPR compliant operatives) of you will be listening to this, perhaps alone, perhaps with headphones on.
