Tenebrae es un coro de cámara profesional, fundado y dirigido por Nigel Short. A menudo, por medio  de la realización con las velas, el coro crea un ambiente de reflexión espiritual y musical, donde se entremezclan el canto medieval y renacentista con obras de arte contemporáneo. El equipo cuidadosamente seleccionado de cantantes utiliza la atmósfera y la acústica del edificio para permitir a la audiencia  experimentar el poder y la intimidad de la voz humana en su mejor momento.

Los cantantes se han extraído de destacados antecedentes musicales – King’s College de Cambridge, la Abadía de Westminster y la catedral, la Catedral de San Pablo, La Royal Opera House Covent Garden y la Ópera Nacional de Inglés – para crear una mezcla única vocal con una extraordinaria gama de potencia vocal y color. Nace del deseo Nigel Short reunir a lo que él más amaba en su propia carrera como cantante, el sonido apasionado de los grandes coros de la Catedral y la precisión de conjuntos como The King’s Singers – para crear un nuevo tipo de agrupación coral.

ABOUT LIVING ROOM SONGS:

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

Living Room Songs will now also be released on CD, Vinyl, Ltd. Special Edition CD &amp; DVD and as High Quality Downloads on December 5th via Erased Tapes.


Following in the spirit of Ólafur Arnalds’ critically acclaimed Found Songs (2009) now comes Living Room Songs. This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds


Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometers outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. Through relentless touring and determination this young artist has steadily gained recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut Eulogy for Evolution. Ólafur Arnalds’ second full-length album ...and they have escaped the weight of darkness, continues his mission to lure an indie-generation of pop and rock fans into an emotive world of beguiling electronic chamber music and delicate classical arrangements. On my sister's birthday couple years ago, I sat next to my piano and I asked what shall I sing to soothe her and anyone who is suffering in any way. The piano always answers and after couple of hours, I pressed record and lyrics happened at that point, without writing them. I am sharing that moment in time with you. Words came to me like a letter to anyone who is in pain out there. I hope you will find it calming. It is one of those songs hidden on my computer waiting for the day when it could become a medicine and this is a time. I trust my heart and I let this sound bird out.

p.s I was always scared to release this song, time of pandemic made me realise that if I wrote this song, it was written to be shared not hidden. Someone could say it does not fit with where my music is heading, I will argue saying: these are my fingers, my hand and my heart wrapped in the voice recorded, so it does not matter if it os 5 or 10 years ago. It is still me. It is a journey.

I know there is a lot of You out there who will find it healing. I am proud to share such intimate, vulnerable and personal song. It makes me realise that is ok to not be perfect, it is ok to not feel ok and it is ok to cry, as I cried when I was recording this. Not in slightest embarrassed to share this with you. I am a human and as a musician I work with feelings and emotions finding ways to express them to help or simply be.
