I actually wrote this poem when I was 9 years old and it was published in Who's Who of America - my first published piece!!! But, I didn't publish it myself until I put my first collection together of poetry and fiction in 2012. 

No Control (written at age 9)

You cannot control where the wind blows
Or make a rosebud bloom

You cannot change the ocean's tide
Or revive a dying moon

Just as so is a beating heart
It does as it pleases

Your mind may say otherwise
But that feeling just increases

No matter how many times it is broken
It always seems to mend

And before you even gain control
It feels love again.
