In the midst of a vision between heaven and perdition
I walked into a dream-state for momentary intermission
And saw you
Amidst spinning specks of sunlight
Surrounding a silver silhouette
You were born of pure illumination
Green leaves fell through
White smoke and aquamarine streams
And you
Awakened me from my vision in a dream
And recognized
All my hidden inhibitions
And demonstrated
How love can be forgiving
And loved
Without request or permission
You loved me wholly
With that Prince I Will Die for You love

Without waiting, without asking, without gauging a
reaction
You penetrated my soul, and I
Gave in without objection
There is only I now, I and my reflection
As a single conduit
For God to experience Itself

And I wrote a silent ballad in piano keys
That only the west wind could sing
While reflecting in the moment on Sonnet 17
And I knew why Neruda kept this love secret,
Between the shadow and the soul
Because this is what being alive feels like
This is the ultimate treasure
Riches beyond explanation;

He petitioned for love, to receive and relay
At best, I could conjure an objective dissonance
Cloak it in lust and love myself through you

I mean, literally,
You would have to travel backwards through this
Ice cold bitter self-sufficiency
And pump life into a tarred-black innocence
That cannot bear to even admit to the hurt
Nor entertain forgiveness

I convinced myself,
This faux-optimistic cynicism
I wear is just being "realistic"

I have issues

But you could call it inquisitive
Since I am always questioning
New ways to prove my intelligence
Vain attempts to fulfill this deficiency
This abysmal longing for attention inside
That needs more than more empty implications
Those pregnant spaces
Where unvoiced promises
Fall into lies

That draws back in disgust
From the double-edged sword of human touch
Because of the usual definition in petitions for love!

Don't give me some play on passion
That curls up and dies when the sun hits it!

I need forever
Or at least try to bet against time

You ask me, what's wrong?
And I'm crying inside because I want
What you say you want so bad
But outside, I'm strong

I don't know, I answer, honest

You tell me, I didn't expect that,
You always seem to have this grip on how you feel.

No, this is
Different, this is
New, this is
Real.

So, I’m standing on the edge of this precipice
Betting against the temporal on forever

Starlit clouds dangle barely over our existence,
I whisper into a daisy to the tune of a song,

You're such an artist, you whisper
Into a kiss pressed to my lips but this,

“Surely, this is a poem,”
I reply, lying backwards, staring into night sky
With every silence, we chase eternity
Fingertips racing shadows down skin
With an urgency that would make even God
Redefine sin.

You move closer,
Already in my blood, I can recite you backwards
Paint you in sand blindfolded with no hands
Sing you, loud and cacophonous like spirituals
When the spirit moves deep down in your stomach
Up through your soul
Rendering tears and trembling
And I can promise you this
Is love, life, and passion personified

I wanna call your name,

On repeat, with forever paused in this moment
Between the anxious curves of our lips

This, is all the heaven I need,
I speak, irreverently
Losing my religion
With every ebb of the night wind
Against sweat spilled
As I grind against your skin.

Butterflies couldn't explain what you give me;
more like a pack of wild lions tearing through the field of my heart.
Devastatingly beautiful.

They say that you have to destroy to create,
so what ended when we began?
Perhaps the beginning was the end of "not us,"
like a continuous stream of time crashing into destiny.

Are we the definition of chaos?
Is chaos the definition of love?
Is love the definition of us?

Let us love, then, love.

Come closer so I can love you two-dimensionally
like two separate entities fused into one framed photograph.
I’ll be the frame so you can love me from the inside out.

Or we can dance together in that one thin sheet of memory,
lips touching lips,
heart touching heart,
soul touching soul,
and let the movement begin
by just being still.

Love in Vignettes

I.

Nature is a wise woman with the hips of a young girl
dancing to the rhythms of song long forgotten
by anyone who could recall the words.

She swings flowing verdant tresses,
bats sparkling cerulean eyes;
her skin an assembly of abundant
imagery golden and deep crimson.

Brilliantly. Dimly.
Wavering between beauty that can be seen,
and subtle shades of memory.

II.

Then, I witnessed the moon making love
to the blackness of a rotating day
and I reached into my own soul
for a love that, like the moon,
needs nothing more than space and presence
to envelope, emanate, evolve.

III.

At dawn,
The movement began
In a rosebud opening
To let the sunlight massage
Her core.

But, I didn't publish it myself until I put my first collection together of poetry and fiction in 2012. 

No Control (written at age 9)

You cannot control where the wind blows
Or make a rosebud bloom

You cannot change the ocean's tide
Or revive a dying moon

Just as so is a beating heart
It does as it pleases

Your mind may say otherwise
But that feeling just increases

No matter how many times it is broken
It always seems to mend

And before you even gain control
It feels love again.
