Today, the 22 August, is the saddest of anniversaries.  On this day, two years ago, I lost my dear brother Brian.  This is a bedroom recording of a song written by him over 40 years ago and one I'd never intended to post at all.  However, I thought today might be a good opportunity to give it a bit of an airing.  This is the only copy still in existence, so please forgive the poor recording quality.  Hope you enjoy it.

This is the second song of my upcoming album "Embraced".  It features the mystical vocals of Ayla Nereo.  

The instrumental of this song is a part of "Phadroid" with Android Jones and Phaedrana.  

I sent Ayla several songs I had been working on to see if any of them were especially inspiring for her and she chose this one.  It was such an incredible moment the first time I heard what she had written.  Often, I choose the song/vocalist and we shape the song from the beginning.  In this instance, I surrendered to whatever was to come through Ayla.  I sent her some feedback and we expanded the song into its current form.

It is a privilege and joy to continue exploring music with Ayla.  Her spirit and songs are ancient and uplifting, fierce yet gentle, and leave me feeling a deep sense of warm remembering.

A note from Ayla - "This collaboration with David Block is one of very few songs in which I've written melody and lyrics for a piece that already had all the instrumentation finished. It's both a challenge and a delight to do this, forcing me to work outside my normal comfort zones of composing, and yielding something greater than either of us would have created on our own. So grateful for the forces of creative collaboration and the magic that happens! "

The trip begins with Swiss journeyman Crowdpleaser teaming up with Egyptian homie Mah'mood for a majikal rendition of pre-Islamic poem YASMIN, featuring hauntingly beautiful vocals from Tunisian wedding singer Habib. <3

UK-native BIRD OF PARADISE joins the crew, fresh off releases on Throne of Blood and Correspondant, with 'The Holy Mountain,' a Jodorowsky-scale epic that sounds like the full-moon party you should've gone to instead of that disgusting frat-party you landed at down the beach.

Label guru DREEMS comes up to bat with the herbal Sine 'O' The Tymes, refining the entire funk of Princeness and bottling into an acid genie bottle, bumping along with a few lazy cowbells in tow, until finally giving way to a frankly astonishingly pretty finish. Masterful. We are all feeling this one.

Finally, Australian doof dingos NICK MURRAY & KRIS BAHA bring up the tempo, rocking out in their inimitable style with electrified guitars, and hypnotic grooves that speak to a lifetime of overhearing digeridoos.

Medicina is a song about deep journies… This sample was provided by an artist in Pucallpa who is the son of a powerful shamanic matriarch of the tribe and has inherited her medicine ways, often painting the visions he is gifted from the plant medicine.  The sample was collected by Critical Beats as part of a collection of recordings aimed at preserving the magic of the Amazon.
In "Medicina", he is speaking specifically about the journey into the song of Ayahuasca. The journey brings you inside yourself. So, close your eyes and embark on a voyage of self discovery.
