Wann Endet die Zeit?

The score for Only Lovers Left Alive -- a collaboration between SQÜRL (Jim Jarmusch, Carter Logan and Shane Stoneback) and Dutch lutenist Jozef Van Wissem -- serves as a reflection of the distinct textures of Detroit and Tangier, bridging ancient and modern sounds, entangled and timeless.

Avant-Baroque lute weaves through twenty-first century guitar grit, heavy back beats, Moroccan percussion, synth bass, field recordings, and numerous sonic effects to create a cinematic tapestry.

Guest vocalist Madeline Follin (Cults) appears on SQÜRL’s syrup soaked re-interpretation of the Wanda Jackson hit “Funnel of Love." Zola Jesus's commanding vocal soars through Van Wissem’s "In Templum Dei." And Yasmine Hamdan’s intimate and evocative “Hal" was recorded on the set of the film and mixed by SQÜRL.

The film and soundtrack album were released worldwide in 2014, and quickly earned the group the Cannes Soundtrack Award from a consortium of film and music critics. In the years that have followed it has remained a favorite of critics and fans alike, who have continued to hunt down the limited vinyl copies in existence.

Film Synopsis:
Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

A balanced universe would be a world that no longer has a reason to move because everything has ended in it and has reached its final state...
Such a world can not exist.

→ Gonzalo Santana (Pylar) y Fran Sánchez se conocen desde hace ya muchos años. Han grabado, tocado en directo, compuesto y ensayado juntos la suficiente cantidad de veces para que, después de varios años sin verse, puedan volver a sentarse juntos con sus instrumentos y de manera espontánea y casi sin planificar, grabar este disco en el que la improvisación ha sido el método de composición principal.

Escuchar la única canción-río del disco, de 22 minutos de duración, traslada inmediatamente al oyente a visualizar paisajes sonoros abiertos, amplios y luminosos; para a la vez sonar densos y aplastantes. Una dicotomía de sensaciones que estos dos viejos conocidos resuelven con la naturalidad de los que hablan el mismo lenguaje musical. Ese que supera las polarizaciones entre música de Occidente y de Oriente, tradición e innovación, rock y electrónica.

En su primera grabación, Socotra demuestran que la distancia entre la música sufí de Egipto y la de místicos del sonido como Dylan Carlson no es tal. Es en esa área intermedia de trascendencia donde se encuentra el disco debut de Socotra.

Ο συρτός του Δροσερού, που μετέπειτα ονομάστηκε συρτός Χαραυγή. 1922 ΗΛΙΑΣ ΔΡΟΣΕΡΑΚΗΣ - ΔΡΟΣΕΡΟΣ 1878 - 1944 Παλιός τεχνίτης στο μπουλγαρί, από τον Δραπανιά Κισάμου. Ερασιτέχνης μουσικός, από τους ελάχιστους καλλιτέχνες της χανιώτικης υπαίθρου που έπαιζαν μπουλγαρί, μιας και αυτό το όργανο μέχρι και χρόνια του μεσοπολέμου το συναντούσε κανείς στα αστικά κέντρα της Κρήτης. Άλλος ένας Δραπανιανός έπαιζε μπουλγαρί, ο Παναγιώτης ο Ραϊσάκης. Ο Δροσερός όμως έμεινε στην μουσική ιστορία του τόπου για μία και μοναδική σύνθεση: Τον συρτό του Δροσερού, ή, τον Συρτό της Χαραυγής (1922) όπως ονομάστηκε κατόπιν. Είναι ο πιο αργός σε ρυθμό, κισαμίτικος συρτός, με πλούσια και όμορφη μελωδία. Έχει διασκευαστεί από πολλούς καλλιτέχνες κατά καιρούς.
