French duo DAT Politics returns this spring with their eleventh full-length LP 'Substage.' On the verge of their twenty-fifth year as a project, DAT Politics continue to explore themes of identity and resistance, while also incorporating new sounds into their music. The result is an album that is both familiar in structure yet fresh and exciting in execution. 'Substage' is their most sonically ambitious record to date. Confirming their obsessive taste for robotic turbo-hits, Substage also explores darker areas of their out-of-phase universe. Oscillating furiously between shattered beat-boxes and melodious spleen, saturation and introspection.This techno pop odyssey is a reflection of the current moment in political history, in which the tension between the forces of globalization and nationalism are reaching a fever pitch. In this context, 'Substage' is a kind of protest album that explores what it means to live in an increasingly complex and disconnected world.

The tracks on this mini-album were built entirely using 1980s home keyboards bought for less than £50 from a popular auction website... Each track showcases a different keyboard, with Splendid Larryo constructed from sounds from the Yamaha PSS-680, a simple FM synth disguised as a child's toy, and brushed up with some up-to-date production tools.

All sounds you hear in the track were made using the Casio SK-100 sampling keyboard from 1987; vocal samples (from past Alfonse release "Time Over") were recorded into the Sampling section of the keyboard via the line-in port. Reverb and delay were added as required during the mixing stage. The drum hits were sampled from drum patterns, edited using EQ, distortion and reverb, and sequenced via midi.
