The upcoming Summer Split 2 EP from Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant label assembles five tracks that help crystallize her vision of primitive sound: an emerging movement that reclaims the visceral roots of club music. Tempos are kept low, and lurching rhythms, dub-heavy basslines, and unsettled, sleek synths combine to hypnotic effect. Slowed-down Italo, industrial, Belgian new beat, and electro pop all converge. The five artists featured on Correspondant’s 29th release, due out on July 21, each provide a unique angle on the label’s burgeoning discography.

Unafraid we can attest “Despertar” is one of the most intriguing and beautiful albums to emerge from the Spanish’s electronic music scene in 2017. A celebrated debut by the Elizondo (Pamplona) based artist Piek, one of a kind emerged from the most versatile musical scene, not in vain he creates inspired by the magic of great names such as Sigur Ros, Moderat or Bonobo.
“Despertar” is the title chosen for the debut LP of this producer and dedicated music lover from Pamplona. One of a kind due to his versatility exploring into skittering beats and a magnetic electronic music. On the album no two tracks are wholly similar; each have their own distinguishing features and incredible songwriting. Are you awake for a unique journey into synth soundtracks, contemporary soul music, futuristic hip-hop rhymes and floating beats? One of the virtues contained in this album is when the artist builds his songs around guest vocals, adding a unique panache but also sacrificing total control. When Piek identifies and aligns his instrumental aesthetic with the emotive output of his guests - Ria, Ryan Roush, Cheney, Kash, Hokhok, Zebulon and Jim Hast- the results are just amplifying and electrifying. “Despertar” contains also an audible gold featuring by the music-composer Fabel and a Tony Phillips poem.

This project is a reaction to perfection and predictability, It’s a return to the raw, expressive and rule breaking days of cold wave, synth punk and acid house. It embodies forward thinking music, art and visuals that have the power to incite shock and awe.

An idea driven from the urge to find truth within a world of lies, a new leader emerges with no bias, the rise of the “ATRIARC” appears with a desire to seek a new sense of reality, to feel something sensual and ecstatic as we move into a new paradigm.

There’s an alluring lack of specificity to the album, it could hail from the past or the future, from the depths of despair or the height of jubilance. Driven by the lush and dominant vocals of James Baley, unadulterated and uncompromising, AZARI & BALEY take you through sounds
that are best described as expressive body music. It speaks on a visceral level, drawing inspiration from the carefree creativity of yesteryear and races into unknown futures where anything goes.
