The Native Tongues were comprised of some of the best Hip Hop MCs, producers and DJ's groups. They included: A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Beatnuts, Money Love, Leaders of the New School and Jungle Brothers. Native Tongues were created when Q Tip a member of A Tribe Called Quest was scratching a New Birth record called African Cry where the singers sing,"they took our native tongue." He was in the studio with members of Jungle Brothers and De La Soul and collectively decided to form an alliance called Native Tongues after hearing it on the New Birth record. The Native Tongues expanded to people who would frequent their recording sessions and incubate new music collectively. They were afrocentric in a time when the musical genre allowed for Hip Hop acts to be unique and challenge themselves with lyrical content. This is a celebration of their collective influence on Hip Hop heads in the 90's.

I became a lover of world music by discovering several spots where that type of music was played but especially at FEX (Foreign Exchange) and Cumbiasazo in Chicago. On those nights, I would ignore everything and everyone around me and just dance. By the end of night, I would be drenched in sweat from dancing all night. Growing Up in the 90's there was a phenomenon called NEW JACK SWING. It was said to have started by Teddy Riley and featured on the New Jack City Movie. The 90's were filled with bright colors and banging beats. This mix is an ode to some of the fondest memories that I had growing up in the 90s. Throw this mix on and jam out! Azteca 500 fell in love with music at a young age. He would go to nightclubs and parties where music took on a journey and left his shirt sweaty by the end of the night. It was House, Dance Hall, Hip Hop, Afro Beats, Cumbria, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Rock en Español, Funk, Reggae, Reggaeton and Alternative music that were really present in his life. He recognizes the power that rhythm and melody have on our mind state and emotions. Music is very sublime and can motivate us to be productive, positive and focused. His mixes are mixed with an intention for the listener to reach their highest potential while grooving to good music.
