Every summer has a small selection of releases that fit that successfully fit that bill… And we have two, courtesy of emerging UK talent Virtue. 

With previous outings on E-Motion and Influenza - plus a major co-lab with fellow Gloucester D&B champ Callide and heavy championship by John B both live and in his weekly podcasts - Virtue has set a solid foundation for a long-lasting career in beats… And he’s taking it next level right here. 

We kick off with ‘Blow My Mind’. Opening with a misty, filtered key refrain, it grabs attention instantly. Soaked in emotion-laden chords, each new element adds more majestic texture before an arresting vocal surges into the mix and leads into one of the most crisp drops we’ve heard in a long time. Nodding referentially to the mid-to-late noughties golden era, there’s a loose, breathy lushness to the fusion, allowing each element to sit comfortably and naturally in the mix. Meltdown guaranteed. 

‘Think Of You’ follows. Igniting with a slightly harder edge, a hooky synth line takes the lead before windy pads, dynamic breakbeats and a well-executed vocal loop fire up the groove. Before we know it we’re deep into that purring, rolling summer bass sound, swimming in a sea of blissed out sonics that manage to sooth and slap in equal measure. Complete with a dramatic half tempo breakdown which strips the tracks back to its bare elements before rebuilding again, it’s yet another surefire case for a sweet summer showdown. 
*Seasonal timing couldn’t be better; Virtue has nailed two creations that will blast right through the sunny sessions and keep us warm in the months that follow. With a wealth of future material ready to unleash, this hardworking, talented newcomer is only just coming to the fore. And right now he’s doing it on Beta. Bring on the summer!

Leeds University alumni -- alongside Rusko -- Sigma met while balancing raving and studying, working in record shops and promoting events to top up their student loans. Early releases with Hospital Records, Viper, Bingo and DJ Fresh's Breakbeat Kaos, as well as their own Life Recordings, quickly marked them out as producers to watch, while remixes for Eric Prydz, Ellie Goulding, Stylo G and Sway began to take them to a wider audience. The world, it seems, is now their oyster.

Three-time BRIT nominee Paloma Faith released her third album 'A Perfect Contradiction' on March 10, the follow-up to 2012's double platinum selling 'Fall To Grace', and her debut 'Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?' (also double platinum). Her new album features a roster of legendary music icons, singer-songwriters and producers including Pharrell Williams (who collaborated on first single 'Can't Rely On You'), Diane Warren, Plan B, John Legend, Stewart Matthewman and Raphael Saadiq. We figured it was time for some d&b again, we had a few tracks lying around for a while that we wanted to finish and put out and we had 2 collabs that went well together. We wanted to call it the 'Tryhard EP', cause all the tracks were so full on. Then Nik & Karol (khomatech.com) started on the artwork, and couldnt really come up with anyuthing cool with that name, so we decided 'Imperial' was a better name. The artwork took about a week to make. We are very proud of this EP.

Imperial w/ Phace 
Phace came out to Groningen again, as he tends to do, to do music. We started this one without working on the main groove first, Florian had brought this awesome chord progrssion. We made the intro and progression from it, which is quite different musically from our normal stuff. Then we went a bit theatrical with the music, i guess we kind of suprised ourselves with the intensity of the drop. But it was refreshing to do. And it´s been going down rather well in our sets..

Tryhard 
This is an older track that has had quite a few incarnations. It used to be called ´lomp´, which translates to crude, or blunt. We had it lying around unfinished for a long time, and a certain youtube set rip was getting a lot of love, so we figured we'd finish it. Changed the mix, added a rollout section, etc. One of the inspriations for this track is Bad Company - 'Dogfight'.. such a sick tune.

Dustup w/ The Upbeats 
Our friends The Upbeats came down to Groningen amidst one of their Europe tours and we hung out, got in the studio, found an old unused bass riff, used it in the buildup, recorded all of us going 'HA' and 'ZU', worked on drum fills for a long time, temporarly called the tune 'Pumpers', jumped around in the studio and voila! 'Dust Up' was born.

Containment 
This track has had many faces also. It started as a bit of a Kemal tribute and and an attempt to do as many things with synths as possible, like the main drums for example (FM8). Along the way it became a journey back into the dark spacious sound of early 2000 era D&B.

Fred V & Grafix, the dynamic duo from Devon, present their debut solo single on Hospital. “Goggles” is a four-track EP featuring the full spectrum of their sound. The “Goggles” EP is fresh, fun and jam-packed with exciting, dancefloor-driven beats that should excite and unite D&B fans for 2013.

With its unassuming bleep intro, “Goggles” will no doubt take some by surprise with its subterranean sounds as bubbling bass and intricate arpeggios develop into the kind of aquatic frenzy you won't have witnessed since doing 50 metres butterfly at school. But wait, “Games People Play” ups the ante with a more recognisable Fred V & Grafix aesthetic - full of polished vocal glow, warm atmospherics, punchy drums and live guitar from Fred Vahrman himself.

Returning to a stripped back, contemplative tone and we have “Denmark Road” with its shimmying soundscape, shuffling breaks and murmuring Calibre-esque sweeps. Beware the epic “Basilisk” awaiting at the end of the EP. This monster has a hypnotizing intro, then bites deep, with a drop dominated by dense, contorting synth work. Awesome.

B-COMPLEX is an estabilished slovak DJ star. D&B project, that took the dnb scene by storm with her banger Beautiful Lies. Since it's release in 2008 on Hospital Records, Matia played all over Europe and over, performing for the crowds from London to Auckland.
