George Gershwin inspired from the Jewish hymns to his music. "It ain't necessarily so" it's an adaptation of the hymn "Aliya" that chant after the reading of the "Torah". George Gershwin compose that song for the needs of the musical "Porgy & Bess" in which also composed the famus song of all times "Summertime".
