What can I say - I've always had this fixation on robots. This tune was intended as the main title theme for a sitcom pilot idea I had some time back. Sharp ears will catch motifs liberally lifted from other early TV sitcoms. This version includes a short intro titled "Stay Out Of My Dream"

Prelude To Halloween - Part 2

Recently, I got to experience one of my favorite singers, Gino Vannelli, in concert. This inspired me to recreate one of his soul driven tunes, “Valleys of Valhalla,” from his album, A Pauper In Paradise, which came before Brother to Brother. Normally I rarely cover songs by my favorite singers, because the original recording is so amazing. However, I wanted to give this song a try.

This will also be the last thing I’m recording on my old equipment, which include the program Cakewalk Sonar. I’ll be transitioning to a Mac computer, with an easier recording platform called Reaper, where I can access virtual sound libraries independently, so I won’t have to rely on sighted assistance. It’s going to make my work flow easier, especially when it comes to creating drum sounds, etc. But that’s another story for the future.

This, of course, is entirely bogus. This track is a combination of a variety of Soundpaint's Adastra strings, all trying not to play together.

I have a lot of plugins that I don't often use, such as Addictive Drums and Addictive Keys and thought I should give them a try out. I recorded the drum track first and considered stopping with that, but decided to record the piano. I then selected 5 Soundpaint virtual instruments (Adastra Chamber Strings; Baritone Sax; Clarinet; Tenor Sax; Soprano Sax) and recorded all five in a single take. Next I added the double bass to anchor the track as the drums don't give you much of a clue. Finally, I added the NI Kontakt Muted Trumpet to finish the track. A quick mix, master and Bob's your uncle.
The image reminds me of being a very young child in Greenock in the 1950s.The evidence of WWII was all around: bombed buildings still had not been demolished. Me and some of the other kids in the street used to climb into abandoned tenement buildings or play in the bomb craters in the hills. Fortunately, I had shoes.

Strange as it may seem, music is created for other reasons than making a living. For many of us it is a way of staying interested in a life that is fraught with disappointment and otherwise encumbered with obstructions to contentment. Some have asked me why I don't create music that is more accessible, with potential for popular appeal. I'll consider that whenever it seems there is a shortage of such. For now, I focus on other sorts of potentials. Not much point in spending valuable time attempting popularity through imitation, and trying to do that better than others.
