Lucy and Rrose, now coming together as The Lotus Eaters, have established themselves separately as techno artists who are just as comfortable operating in the uncharted area of experimental music. Running their own labels (Stroboscopic Artefacts and Eaux, respectively), they have gained a cult following, both influencing and challenging the direction of techno.

Their first collaboration took the form of mutual remixes. Lucy remixed Rrose, taking on his modern classic “Waterfall” while Rrose remixed Dadub for Stroboscopic Artefacts, and shortly thereafter contributed an extended EP as part of SA’s Monad series.

Eventually, the idea of working together became inevitable. Several intense sessions in Lucy’s Berlin studio followed, using mainly analog hardware. These sessions gave birth to a new project, starting with two EPs signed Lucy and Rrose, called “The Lotus Eaters” (SA) and “The Lotus Eaters II” (Eaux). With the “Desatura” album, the first release signed under the project name The Lotus Eaters, their common work is refined further, also becoming a live act which will debut at ADE (Amsterdam) 2018.

With “Desatura,” Lucy and Rrose explore themes of physical density, emptiness, and space, creating sonic objects which can be rotated and viewed from multiple perspectives. Eschewing the typical instrumentation of techno, the duo use synthesized sound and feedback as fundamental sources to generate both textural and percussive elements. A sense of tension and weight emerge from sources that cannot be easily pinpointed. The resulting album forms a complex narrative from a paradoxically simple and restrained set of sound sources. A mysterious and profound accomplishment.

Exos joins forces with Gotshell a.k.a Alessan Main, the great ambassador of the Colombia electronic music scene for the fifth release on X/OZ. The pair met in Colombia made the decision to make music together. Over the next weeks they travelled together in Colombia getting inspiration from the Colombian spirits. The pair also teamed up with Maayan Nidam for a true jungle remix to go along with four original tracks with sounds that originate and fluctuate with the deep spiritual entities of Colombia.

Bapari has provided support for artists like Total Freedom, Tygapaw, Kingdom, Bok Bok, Mexican Jihad, Shygirl, Coucou Chloe, DJ Haram and SFV Acid at parties on both coasts and headlined LA's Boiler Room showcase. After moving to New York she regularly DJ’d events at venues like Elsewhere, Nowadays, No Bar and Mood Ring as well as playing Melting Point’s New Years Eve Party and Papi Juice in Brooklyn. Most recently, Bapari opened for and served as the DJ for Steve Lacy. Bapari has produced tracks for recording artists Saturn Rising, Matiss, Oscar Key Sung, Banoffee, and Davia Spain. She formerly played drums in the LA based punk band Fuck U Pay Us, as well as soccer for the Haitian national team. Bapari DJs the monthly show Puffy on NTS radio and is releasing her debut club EP on Fake Accent Records this year. 

What inspired this mix?
Working on this mix somewhat synced up with finalizing my EP. These past few months I haven't felt motivated or in the right headspace to work on these tracks. I had a few demos but the project itself felt very unfinished and eventually I stopped revisiting it. Recently though, I have felt a bit of resurgence and this mix is inspired by that feeling of renewal.
