Known for their head-bopping, hip-thrusting, zalghouta-inducing tunes, Restless Leg Syndrome seamlessly fuse Western and Middle Eastern references in their work. Their tastefully-crafted mélange strikes a nerve; providing a trace of nostalgia for an ever-growing diaspora and a hint of excitement to the unfamiliar ear. The Vienna-based group is comprised of longtime DJ and producer d.b.h and turntable maestros Chrisfader and Testa. A seasoned enthusiast of Lebanese music, d.b.h provided the influence for their critically acclaimed second EP “Dabkeh”. The EP paid tribute to the Mediterranean form of line-dancing, by flipping samples of Lebanese music into irresistibly groovy beats. 

The group began working loosely on their upcoming project over a year and a half ago. The onslaught of the pandemic shot prospects for gigs short and the guys quickly found themselves in the studio five days a week. With busy schedules cleared up, they locked down and focused full-throttle on music. Having toured the MENA region after releasing “Dabkeh” and dug up an expansive library, their newest body of work samples gems from Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco, Irak and Lebanon. Moreover, the guys stumbled across 80’s Lebanese electro-pop star Emaad Sayyah living in Austria and proceeded to work together in his studio as well as sampling his previous work for their upcoming project.

In the native tongue of the South American tribe Mapuche, there exists the word ‘MENOKO’. Deep within the Andean Forests there are sacred places, springs of purity known as Menokos. Hidden and untouched by man or animal, they are whispered, home of virgin water. Womb of the natural cycle from which plants and herbs of extraordinary medicinal abilities are nurtured.

@BarrioLindo feels a strong bond to the native tribes of his Argentinian home. Ancestral cultures are of great importance, providing a wealth of inspiration. An instrument maker by trade, using his bare hands he constructs many ethnical instruments like Andean flutes, African harps, string instruments from India and so on. This fascination with indigenous sounds is reflected within his music and themes with the use of samples and tribal instrumentation. While understanding his work is far from that of the native cultures, he finds ways to incorporate these influences through fusions of sounds. Drawing a parallel, worlds both old and new align.

Late Night Endless is the first album by Sherwood & Pinch and the culmination of two years in the studio developing, re-dubbing and deconstructing tracks. It finds the highest common factor between the two's techniques, making it impossible to see where one musical personality ends and the other starts. It touches on the urban swing of UK garage on ‘Music Killer (Dub)' and 'Gimme Some More (Tight Like That)', on interstellar nineties ambient dub on 'Wild Birds Sing', on the mystical minimalism of Pinch's first releases on 'Africa 138'. Utilising Sherwood’s deep-fathomed sound bank, Late Night Endless also incorporates elements of his previous productions, including vocals by Daddy Freddy, Congo Natty, Lee ‘Scratch’  Perry, Prince Far I and Andy Fairley.
 
Adrian Sherwood built up a vast catalogue of music through the 1980s as producer to the sprawling dub-industrial-electro collective that was On-U Sound, which emerged from a fertile post-punk scene that was embracing Jamaican rhythms.  In his capacity as a DJ and live sound engineer/dub controller, he connected with the likes of The Clash, The Slits, Public Image Limited and The Pop Group. He also remixed, produced and collaborated with Primal Scream, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Depeche Mode, The Fall, Blur, Air, Peaking Lights, Django Django and Machinedrum.
 
Pinch has became revered as a dubstep stalwart, founding the respected label Tectonic in 2007. He’s one of the earliest dubstep producers to expand outwards into techno and other sounds to keep his work and his Tectonic label fresh as dubstep itself went mainstream. One of Pinch's most well-known tracks is "Qawwali" (Planet Mu), which references the devotional singing of the same name and features samples of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. One of the first producers in the dubstep scene to release a fully realised album in Underwater Dancehall, he also made connections with an older tradition of heavy bass music by releasing an album by dub legend Scientist on Tectonic. More recently, he collaborated with man of the moment Mumdance (recently signed to XL) to deliver a b2b mix full of dubplates and unheard material.

It was inevitable that, as Rob's career kept its steady build, that the two's paths would cross – but actually Rob gave the hand of fate a nudge by booking Adrian to play at a Tectonic takeover at Fabric in London. Adrian recalls “I remember thinking quite clearly how impressed I was with him. I thought as he invited me here, I should invite him down to my studio...”
 
Two limited edition 12” EPs – Bring Me Weed and Music Killer – followed, but it was being asked to deliver a live show for Sónar Tokyo in April 2013 that really put a rocket under the project. “We decided to have a whole studio on stage” says Adrian, “so that the mix truly is delivered live in a totally unique way that can never quite be done the same again”. The result was triumphant, with even master of noise abuse Alec Empire [Atari Teenage Riot] watching agog from the side of the stage and broadcasting to the world what a revelation it had been.

About "El hombre caimán"

"El hombre caimán" (Folcore 138) "The alligator man" is an album that seeks to be influenced by the landscapes, traditions and legends of Colombia, interpreted from the sounds of electronic folk with cinematic and psychedelic touches very much in the vein of Thub. Among the songs on the album, "El hombre caimán", "Alborada", "Mientras duermen" and the singles, already released "Darién" and "Sensible" stand out.

About Thub

Thub was born as a proposal of music fusion between the Colombian folk sounds and the techniques of creation and production of western modern music, using synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines as tools to create a colored contour that travels between the rhythms of cumbia and the textures of modern electronic music.

In 2017 Thub released his first album "En el trópico" through Folcore Records and in 2018 he released the EP "Tierra de Nadie" in which you can feel a rhythmic change marked by experiencing other cadences and other tempos.

After a while and through the experimentation of a new performance, the third musical proposal is released in 2022 under the name of "El Hombre Caimán", a work of more than two years of creation, in which a high influence of Bass Music is heard and the asynchronous rhythms that give a unique character to each track and that seek to recreate environments and situations very typical of Colombia halfway between downtempo and midtempo.

"El hombre caimán" (Folcore 138) es un álbum que busca influenciarse de los paisajes, tradiciones y leyendas de Colombia, interpretados desde las sonoridades del folk electrónico con toques cinemáticos y psicodélicos muy propios de Thub. Entre los temas que componen el disco se destacan "El hombre caimán", "Alborada", "Mientras duermen" y los singles que ya se adelantaron al lanzamiento "Darién" y "Sensible".

Melodías, ritmos y atmósferas inigualables, cadenciosos y hasta nostálgicos, se presentan sobre sólidas báses electrónicas matizadas con arreglos dub y minimal.

Acerca de Thub

Thub nace como una propuesta de musica fusión entre los sonidos folclóricos colombianos y las técnicas de creación y producción de la música moderna occidental, haciendo uso de sintetizadores, samplers y cajas de ritmos como herramientas para crear un contorno coloreado que viaja entre los ritmos de la cumbia y las texturas de la música electrónica moderna.

En 2017 Thub lanza su primer álbum “En el trópico” a través del sello Folcore Records y al año siguiente hace el lanzamiento de un EP titulado “Tierra de Nadie” en el cual se aprecia un cambio rítmico marcado por experimentar otras cadencias y otros tempos.

Luego de un tiempo y a través de la experimentación de un nuevo performance, nace la tercera propuesta para 2022 llamada "El Hombre Caimán", un trabajo de más de dos años de creación, en el cual se escucha una alta influencia de la Bass Music y los ritmos asincopados que le dan un caracter único a cada track y que buscan recrear ambientes y situaciones muy propias de Colombia a medio camino entre el downtempo y el midtempo.

I was getting ready to fly back from a gig (and chasing waterfalls) on Maui in January when @Mochipet texted me and asked me to be a part of this Acid Bass compilation he was dreaming up that would support MAPS.  I said sure, of course, psychedelics are coooool….and almost the entire track came together on that flight.  Due to some indirect magic courtesy of @annamorgan_dj and @thebeatkitty , I got connected to @rider-shafique at right around the same time and of course this seemed like the perfect opportunity to collab with one of the dopest mc’s in the solar system.  This song has actually been done since February and just needed a little love on the mix, but in my other life I’m the marketing director at a natural foods supermarket in Taos, NM and pandemic life has me slackin on the music tip and grindin on that grocery lyfe tip.  So, finally, here it is!  Happy Thanksgiving!  Please wear a mask!
