The vibes just keep on flowing at the PROGRAM HQ…

Battering our way into the new year with a quartet of forward-thinking grooves, the label’s sixth release is chock-a-block with floor busters.

Nitri ignites proceedings with stealth-like prowess. Opening with a series of infectious clicks and whirrs, his engine purrs with a pensive funk that isn’t realised fully until the delicious vocal and bassline bounce kick in. The epitome of a contemporary roller, this stripped back groove attack has been a highlight of Andy C’s sets for the past few months, causing major commotions amongst both the raving crew and fellow DJs whenever he drops it.

Audio & Meth follow. And they do so with an almighty switch-flip. Hot on the heels of their monstrous ‘Gamma’ on Audio’s latest album ‘Soul Magnet’, the duo continue to strut their heavyweight co-lab stuff with ‘Alone’. Drenched in drama and grizzling bass tears, ‘Alone’ opens with a cavalcade of haunting horns before dropping into an all-out filth workout. Spitting snub-nosed sonics, it’s like the late 90s all over again… But with production skills our last-century D&B forefathers could only dream of.

Up next: Eastcolors who’s served up a track that’s in grave danger of literally living up to its title. ‘Murderer’ harbours a bassline so deadly it could bump your dancefloor to death with its endless mutations and manipulations. Sprung with a fine-tuned funk and arranged with dynamite dynamics, this is one murder case all dancefloor detectives want to solve.

It’s down to Paul B to bring this speaker-smashing set to a fitting conclusion. A dab-hand at this D&B game since the turn of the century, ‘Drop By Drop’ shows just why the Russian artist is widely regarded as ‘the producer’s producer’. A funky fusion of minimal and electro and classical reference points, it’s a roller that just keeps on giving on every listen. Simple but outrageously effective, it’s an exemplary lesson in how to make a nagging hook.

As the first in a series of EP’s, CODE Recordings is proud to showcase a diverse set of producers from around the globe and some of the more experimental sounds in the scene today in the first of this new series, Codebreakers.

Kicking off things following their last outing with Kemo MC and Ben Soundscape, Bachelors Of Science team up with groundbreaking Los Angeles collaborators Kuru for the 170bpm bass sounds of “What We Need”. Fresh off their track with Photek and releases on Smog, !K7 and Nervous Records, Kuru are well known in California for their bass music productions and breathtaking live performances, Maria Remos returns to CODE to complete the package, laying down her signature vocals on this 170bpm west-coast heavyweight.

Travelling across to London, England, track two showcases the first of several releases from newly signed artists, Conduct. Already gaining support from the likes of DLR, Synkro and Blu Mar Ten, Conduct are quickly becoming known in their hometown for their intricate forward-thinking productions. “Come On, Dan!” takes a stripped down minimal approach, whilst tribal sounds and Dub Phizix influenced beats ensure it still keeps punch for the dancefloor.

Returning to the Bay Area for the third track on the EP, Bachelors Of Science team up with San Francisco rising stars Aphonic for the stunning “Make It Go”. Gaining support from Bailey, Data, Clarity and more, Aphonic show why they’re rapidly on the rise, pairing up with the Bachelors for this deep atmospheric drum n bass track that mixes classic rhodes, lush vocals and stunning rhythms.

Last but not least we return to London’s Dominic Ridgway for the final track, “8762”, a divine slice of smooth cinematic drum n bass, with a rolling chord progression and delicate synths. Dominic shot into the scene after remixing Sabre for Critical and has subsequently continued his journey on labels such as Lifestyle and Plush Recordings, regularly picking up plays from the likes of DJ Flight and more.

Few artists to emerge from North America’s Drum & Bass culture have made such a significant or enduring impact as San Francisco based trio Bachelors of Science. Formed in 2005, the group has carved out an unmistakable signature sound that spans the full emotional scope of the genre. From deep liquid over to the harder dance floor sounds of DnB, BoS have retained their musical quality and a loyal following, picking up a Beatport award for Best Drum n Bass single and several features on BBC Radio 1 while garnering DJ support across the scene from artists like LTJ Bukem, High Contrast, Friction, S.P.Y, Spectrasoul, Doc Scott, Bryan Gee, Marky, and many more.

Having released music on labels like Spearhead, Dirtybird, Fokuz, Horizons and Intrigue, in 2012 they launched CODE Recordings as an outlet for their music as well as standout productions from some of the top artists in the DnB scene.

On stage BoS bring an energy and vibe that is all their own. From top clubs like Fabric and Ministry of Sound to festivals and events such as Tomorrowland, Sun and Bass, Hospitality and Liquicity, the guys regularly perform around the world taking crowds on a unique journey with everything from originals and bootlegs to custom edits of cutting edge tracks and past future classics.
