In loving memory to RAVE CLUB Cologne 1988-89 ( https://psychothrillcologne.tumblr.com/raveclubcologne ) ... the relevant story here so far: Hip-House, also known a bit clumsy as Rap-House or House-Rap, is a musical genre that mixes basically elements of House Music and HipHop. The style rose to prominence during the late 1980s in Chicago and New York. The "New Style" originated in Chicago and quickly became popular across the U.S. east coast, in the UK and also in Germany (so for example in 1988/89 in Cologne's legendary RAVE CLUB > https://soundcloud.com/claus-bachor/sets/rave-club-cologne-1988-89-the ). For a closer delimitation the two expressions of black American culture, came from quite different places. House's relationship with Disco and HiNRG, closely identified with gay culture and hedonism, seemed superficially concidered in stark discord with Hip-Hop’s emphasis on gritty funk, hetero machismo, and ghetto reportage. But at the end of the 1980s when both genres were riding high and House was hotter than ever, the scenes finally mingled. Rappers wanted some House hype on their albums, and dance producers employed MCs to add some flavour to their tracks. The result was Hip-House, a strong blend of Chicago/NYC style, strictly rhythm beats, funky breaks and party-hyping lyrics that worked remarkably well ...

"To tell the truth: For myself I'm not really satisfied with the quality of my MIX here. It makes a significant difference in the game whether you play in the current daily business comparatively fast House, Techno and contemporaneous Half-Step and Electro or (Detroit) TechnoBass. Or, after years of absence, return to your own story and roots to the lower Electro Oldschool BPM rate for the aforementioned radio show. In the end, that was already a harsh jump into the so-called "cold water", and much of the mix in this mixwerk just runs after one's own claim. Therefore I'll allow myself to re-record this mix soon again in due course and then exchange it here. Nevertheless, the present result is an authentic document regarding OldSchool Electro between 1982 and 1988 in Cologne clubs and elsewhere in the world - when the boundaries between (Street-)Electro, Rap, Hip Hop and Miami Bass were still fluid -, to whose attitude I have been asked by several friends as well as 674.fm. When TECHNO used to be fast, funky and fantastic! This first excerpt from a multi-hour set recording from January 5, 2003, in which Claus Bachor and his "long-time partner" Roland Casper played for the Munich party crew "Tanzdiebe" one of the last parties in the former club legend of the Bavarian State capital to be played at all in that year. 

Both are still cited today with the following words: "The club was packed as usual. Sweat dripped from the ceilings everywhere, while the incredible bass in the club constantly drove the party crowd to more and more top dance action until the early hours of the next day and kept on being screamed out on the dance floor. The end of ULTRASCHALL II (same to be mentioned for ULTRASCHALL I), like so many nights we had played there before, was simply unforgettable. Just said 'Gone one day, but never forgotten!'"

More facts about ULTRASCHALL I & II: In the history of germany's night clubbing there are a few spaces that are probably held in higher regard than Ultraschall. Munich's gone but not forgotten famous ULTRASCHALL (june 17.1994 - january 31.2003) used to be the Southern German metropolitan’s wildest and most open-minded venue for techno and other game forms of electronic music like House, Future Minimal and IDM. It finally became one of a few real German techno club legends till today. The driving force(s) behind all used to be Peter Wacher (Disko B records) also known as DJ Upstart, Captain Reality and David Süß, where the whole world league of Techno and House DJs used to play at this club.

PSYCHO THRILL Cologne-founder and former NETWORK PRESS / CUT / d2000 magazine editor CLAUS BACHOR. One of the German long-term House and Techno DJs at all, and as friends in Detroit say "he's been doing this as long as anybody else that we know! His sets can range from classic Disco & old school House classics all the way to the darkest, bangin' techno that you've ever heard!" However, he's not standing still yet: The Psycho Thrill club and vinyl label run by him has just turned 29 and Bachor is still doing bookings all over Europe, the United States and beyond.

His long-term affiliations with Detroit Techno music and also his journalistic involvement with the topic of Detroit Techno/ Electro/ Chicago-House as an author/editor over the years has made him a world renowned expert. This experience and vast knowledge of the techno genre has led him to appearing in many documentaries, the most noteable being 'High Tech Soul' [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0DocslQ4lE ] which focused on the creation of Detroit techno music. Other film credits include being involved in the highly acclaimed 'We Call it Techno' [ https://vimeo.com/showcase/4518357/video/207023599 ] documentary which focused on Germany's early techno scene and club culture.

Without using the usual hype for trends, he has managed to gain a position as multi-​commun​icator in the German Techno and House scene, in which he is always convincing as a DJ. With "backinthadayz" Bachor goes back here to his musical roots which where deeply influenced by afro-american friends who where working at the US embassy in Bonn or taking service as GIs at US military basis in the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main and Nuernberg area in the early seventies.
