Stones Throw & The Beat Junkies did a joint event that was put together by ArtDontSleep in the city of Los Angeles 3 weeks ago (10.26.13). it is the first time that Stones Throw & the Beat Junkies have joined forces to do a special event. Imagine Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk, Prince Paul, Karriem Riggins, Rakaa Iriscience, LMNO, the Cypress Junkies, Jonwayne, & of course, the Beat Junkies all under one roof. Copenhagen Jazz Cats  // Mixed and compiled by Jabar

To celebrate the launch of the Pasteelo x Thomas Pålsson collaboration, @jabarligla has dug deep into the crates to put together a mixtape that pays homage to the Copenhagen jazz scene in the 60s - especially a tribute to three Copenhagen jazz cats: Allan Botschinsky, Bjarne Rostvold and NHØP.

"Allan Botschinsky, Bjarne Rostvold and NHØP - all three essential cornerstones of the Danish jazz heritage (among other legends of course). They played together as a trio, but also in many other different constellations and had their own solo careers - extremely gifted jazz cats. So gifted that the whole world opened its eyes to what was happening on the Copenhagen jazz scene. It became a melting pot in the 60s, to which many of the great jazz legends from the US and beyond contributed... the rest is history.

The premise of this mix is ​​that at least one of the three jazz cats is credited on every track - which means that many other jazz musicians are also represented in the mix.. People like Jørn Elniff, Bent Axen, Sahib Shihab, Alex Riel, Ole Kock Hansen, Jørn Grauengaard, Hugo Rasmussen to name just a few.

Allan Botschinsky, Bjarne Rostvold and NHØP's careers transformed over the years from the earlier post bebop years to hard bop up through the early 60s, on to a more soul/funk and mainstream jazz sound in the late 60s and 70s, even children's music in between and further into the 80s fusion..

In this mix I have chosen to focus exclusively on the early years, when they primarily played hard bop, but there will also be a few detours and an ending in a psychedelic bathtub.. enjoy!" - Jabar.

Portland, Oregon (1998) 

L PRO and D-Wyze began work on Uncharted Regions in early 1995. Big influences at that time included Nas, Black Moon, Wu Tang and Pete Rock and CL Smooth. 

D-Wyze was heavily influenced by Premier and used the Akai S950 and MPC to get malodic grooves and heavy drums to bang on the Regions project. Pro focused on lyrical content which included joints like my words my world, and the collaboration with Lifesavas' Vursatyl on "Profound Vursatylity". 

Other collaborations included Ray Ray and others on this debut record. Grassrootz was cemented in the Portland Hip Hop scene with this record that proved hard hitting drums, samples and solid lyrics could bring what everyone wanted. 

A solid record. Pro and D-Wyze were more then just best friends setting out to prove that Hip Hop from an Uncharted Region could be dope....they wanted to send a MESSAGE; that they were more then just local.
